OK, when will it stop that I see an insane low price on something someone refers to as an EB_ and I realise it's not, for example as just now, a vintage EB4L, but one of these guys (fine basses, mind). Like twice this week. Screw you brain; you know better.

Calling the modern EBs "EB 4" is a stretch. But then reintroducing the name "EB" (after having done away with it for the SG bass) was asking for it.

I keep seeing this referred to as an EB-13. It was introduced in 2013 but AFAIK Gbson never referred to it as anything other than the EB Bass (http://www.gibson.com/Products/Electric-Guitars/Bass/Gibson-USA/EB-Bass.aspx). It definitely wasn't called an EB-4.
Good price on this one.

It was a dumb name, whether EB or EB-13. Going that far back (in type name) for what was essentially a modern bass with very little Gibson traits (essentially just the set neck) and certainly nothing in common with anything ever called "EB" even within the Gibson world.

A few years back, I bought a 2012 Firebird V 2010........... I think the 2010 signifies the year they started using Steinberger tuners instead of banjo tuners. Still, it dumbs up the name a bit.

Not a bad price on a mint 2013 EB with case. The cream color does look sharp with tort.
I have the 5 string of the same year in fire burst and it easily is the most flexible bass I've ever owned. Tons of different sounds and coil taps on each monster humbucker. A watch out on the cream colored ones is that I've seen a lot of them listed as blemish finish, so I don't know what's going on there (bad batch or maybe a diffucult paint, IDK).
FWIW - I refer to my 2013 EB as an EB5 because it's a 5 string, sure it's confusing but so was the bizarre idea of bringing back a name from the dead and giving it to a different bass. ;)

I sold mine for $640 back in February. That was the most I could get for it, had to negotiate a best offer deal on Reverb.com. It was sunburst and in close to mint condition.

Gibson's official catalog name for the new EB bass is just "the EB Bass" without any number. Anybody who is adding a number (like 4 or 13) is doing it themselves.
There actually is such a thing as an official EB-4, or more correctly an EB-4L however. (Just learned about these - and much to my surprise.) But it looks like a single pickup version of an EB-3L with a small "tone selector" switch down by the bridge. It had some unusual features including a unique super humbucker pup. If you read the writeup on the link below you can see hints of some of the design thinking that eventually led up to the Ripper.

No, it's not officially an EB13, but people are going to call it that. "Mudbucker" isn't an official name either.
We're pretty familiar with the EB-4L here. At least three active members here own one, and another member owned one for years. The rap against its pickup is that it drops out when you bend. I wouldn't know since I've never played one.

Please, no need to apologize, and I didn't mean it as any kind of putdown. I realize it's new to you, just keep in mind that every production bass Gibson has ever made has been discussed here and is probably owned by one or more people here.

I can assure you that neither Dave nor Uwe will ever say anything to put someone down here. In case you interpreted it that way, that simply wasn't the case. Especially if you're interested in Gibson basses, there is probably a lot you'd find here. I'm no expert myself on the topic, but some of the people here are. There is going to be an inevitable "inside baseball" approach, though, which gets into a lot of nuances.

Yeah, I contacted the seller about it going from $650 > $725 - he said, "when I relist instruments, I put them back at their original asking price". I don't understand that selling strategy, but it ain't mine to sell.
Like I stated when I started this thread, I don't know anything about this (or any other Gibson) bass, but it sure is nice looking.
As usual, I'm learning quite a bit from the folks chiming in and adding their take.
