A while back I bought an Epi NR from Denis. The bass had been battered by a previous owner so I decided to strip it and refin it.

So I spent an afternoon with a hot stripper ;D

Stripping this thick coat was not easy. I started with aircraft stripper, but at a certain point the heat gun was needed. After a month or so of the project sitting I realized that between work and school I wasn't going to have time to paint this myself. I was also having a tough time getting the chunks and dents in the body to look as smooth as they should, so I took it to a local guy that did the body work and paint for me.

I liked a bass that Carlo had built that was finished in white with a black pearl pickguard so I decided to "borrow" his color scheme. I had my luthier make a pickguard for me, also had an ABM type bridge installed and Joe (Chromium) had installed a Dimarzio Model P in the bass when I first got it. So now it is finished and I'm pretty happy with the final product ;D Hope you like it.

That looks killer!

+1
fantastic job on that refin!
-
Thanks guys! I fixed the pictures now.

Stunning...!
How's she play compared to the Warmoth... considering the P/J setup...
-
Totally different sounds really. The Dimarzio really gives this an aggressive sound that I really like while the EMG's are punchy but not gritty. The Epi neck is chunkier too, but its still a comfortable feeling neck.

Neck shave...?

Turned out great, Andy! It's a shame some previous owner beat the hell out of it like he did because it had nice grain. It was almost like he'd used it as an axe.
-
I agree Denis, the grain was nice on it. The burst was nice and darker than the pic's show. It had less yellow than some of these I have seen. I like how it turned out and I'm glad I had the work done to it.

I bet that Dimarzio P kicks ass!
-
Perfect color and outcome!

Got to play this and the Warmoth last Sunday, and it sure does! Both basses are beautiful, but I think I'm partial to the Dimarzio sound.
(...actually, I think I'm partial to the Blackbird (http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k125/0chromium0/forums/smilies/icon_twisted.gif))
