1957 Gibson EB1 - Parts
« on: November 19, 2016, 01:39:51 PM »
Group...

I have a '57 EB1 that needs a few things;
(Not necessarily look for vintage parts right now)

Control Cavity Cover (+2 screws)
*Will most like make one, does anyone know where to find a similar "brown" colored material.

Control Knobs

Input Jack Plate (+4 screws)

Also need various Screws (most are either stripped or rusted)
Pickup cover (4)
Strap Button End Plate (4)

Any input is appreciated, Thanks!

The plastic components were made of bakelite. All parts sells amber speed knobs that should be in the ballpark. Screws should have a modern day available equivalent. The input jack plate might be tough to find or just find a friend at a machine shop to help. Good luck!
Contrary to what James Bond says, a good Gibson should be stirred, not shaken.

Yes, I knew the pickup cover was, didn't know about the control cavity cover.

Seems I should be able to use a standard Gibson jack plate (black), wasn't sure if the screw holes line up properly.

I'm assuming the control cavity cover is the same material as the pickup cover and pickguard as it makes sense from a manufacturing standpoint. Lucky you've got the earlier bar bridge though. Replacing an evertilt on the reissue isn't something I'm looking forward to figuring out.

Pickguard Heaven (Chandler) lists brown gloss (single layer) and brown/cream/brown, and they do sell sheet material. No photo of the single layer brown, you'd have to check with them to see if it's dark enough. It's apparently not brown tortoise, since they list that separately.

I think there is a company from the UK or Japan that sells relic Les Paul Parts. They make repro Brown control covers. They may have the material...Or just buy a new Gibson Historic one and cut it down.
