Fender's new board members

I'm thinking this can't be good

Maybe it's because I'm not a fan. Could be worse, though.

Hey, it could have been board members from some group as lovely as Bain Capital's board.  Sounds like much better than having non-musical business people on that board.

Blendercaster, or maybe Bonoffender, or even Fender... living on the Edge... :P

That is so hideous.  Words fail.

I'd rather have people who actually know something about making and marketing musical instruments. Bono and The Edge don't fit the bill. And don't get me going about Bono's association with the ONE Campaign, which uses over 50% of its funding for staff salaries and only 1% to the charitable causes it advocates.

FMIC's majority owner and managing partner is TPG Growth. While it would be nice if they weren't in the hands of an investment firm, at least it's a company that wants to make a profit. It isn't another Bain.

Maybe if U2, especially Bono, put more effort into making good music rather than saving the planet, building luxury homes, getting involved with Fender, and the list goes on--they might be better off.  As of now, I haven't heard a single U2 song that is actually any good.  The clock is ticking.

That is certainly a positive note.

The Edge said "I've been a fan of Fender guitars from the beginning, playing them on all the most important U2 tours and albums. But I'm most interested in working with the Fender design team on some new ideas." - See more at: http://tonereport.com/news/bono-and-the-edge-join-fenders-board-of-directors#sthash.TETbLpNl.dpuf   :puke: :puke:

Or could it be a half million US dollars to attend two board meetings a year?  Get yourself on enough boards and it's living large.

I'm doing it wrong.  I serve on a university advisory board and I not only pay my own way to meetings, I have to make a healthy donation to the university as well.  I need to find a sugar-daddy board or two to serve on.

Yeah, I'm sure The Edge will come up with new ideas and everyone will embrace his new designs and drop their Strats, Teles, Ps and Js.    Does he even use Fenders regularly?

"I've been a fan of Fender guitars from the beginning, playing them on all the most important U2 tours and albums.'
yet on "it might get loud" he said that the first guitar he bought when they could finally afford proper instruments was his explorer, and that was the only guitar he used on the first 3 albums.

Heck, for half of that I'd join Wishbass's board of directors.

Evidently, it's quite the fad - many of the most well paid CEO's are boards of many other corporations - just can't have too many millions in the bank.
