BTW: The Antiguas were also at the Musik Messe, but that were Custom Shops.
The 'Traktor' is from Fret-King. That one's already discussed in the 'three pick up'-thread and I reviewd one for a magazine a year ago.

I like the double pickup idea, but would had preferred it on the oposite bodies....
Also a Split + double J would have been cool.

I wish they hadn't called that bass the "traktor", seeing as Berry Oakley's Fender "Tractor" did not have a pickup arrangement even close to what they have. Oh well. :-\

Oops, sorry. I own a "Tractor" bass so I got a little carried away. I love the idea of the double P Jazz, wish they would make a Lee Sklar double P Precision sometime....

The Fret-King model looks more like something Billy Sheehan would have done to a Jazz Bass.
That's a tractor darkstar deluxe, no mud there.

The original Berry Oakley Tractor had a Hagstrom Bi-Sonic, which was a single coil, so there was never any mud to begin with. Definitely not to be confused with Mel Schacher's Mudbucker Jazz Bass.
Yep, the pole pieces face the bridge. Berry had two "versions" of his Tractor, one with the pole pieces down and one with them up. The reason: he took the pickups off his Guild Starfire and mounted them on the bass so that the pole pieces would match the string spacing.

It was built by RS Guitarworks, as a custom replica build of Berry's first and last remaining Tractor bass. He had two Tractors: a natural '66 with dots and binding, then a sunburst '69 with blocks and binding. Towards the end, he took the '69 neck and put in on the natural '66 body. That's the only one left today, in his son's possession. So they recreated that one themselves, right down to the exact wear patterns on the bass itself (thus the wear on the bridge body contour).

Uwe hears and sees everything even in this forum of despaired souls in eternal darkness, but there are no two ways about it how the Gibson Sklar was a flop. A Valley Arts project ripped off from them by Henry J. in a misguided attempt to throw it against the wall for Gibson to see if it would stick. It didn't. Rob spoke top Sklar at the Frankfurt Messe and was told that Sklar never ever owned one. Gibson must have forgotten to send him one. Shit happens.

I used to laugh at the Mellencamp video where he covered "Wild Night" featuring her on bass and prominently displaying the LP in the video, even though the bass on the track sounded very much like a Stingray. I don't know what she cut the actual track with but the irony was that tone was probably the one sound that you couldn't get out of an LP Deluxe.

I was looking at those Jags at GC yesterday. Interestingly, they come with two pickup configurations. I thought they were all a P/J setup, but some of them have no heck pickup and have a single MusicMan style pickup at the bridge. Picked one up and noodled around on it - pretty, not too heavy - more like an average P and J in weight.

I know the Blacktop guitars are made in Mexico, that almost surely means the basses are too.

Not a blacktop, but now all mine! Just put Labella Deep Talkin flats on. Nice playing bass, light and sounds goo. VERY bright with original rounds, more mellow with Labellas.

I gave the J with the double P's a shot yesterday. My one word judgement: meh. Construction was sub par with the controls essentially non-functioning. The bridge P was so weak and tinny as to be useless. It struck me as an instrument designed by the marketing team with no though as to actually making it work well.

Today I saw the new Fender pricelists, with the new tubeamps
Fender brings a Super Bassman of 300W (SVT Killer?) and a Bassman 100W. Prices over 2000 euro. They also have cabs: 1x15, 4x10, 6x10 en 8x10.

I've had a 100W Bassman and a 200W Studiobass, both tube amp. I love how those old Fenders sound. Much cleaner than Ampegs but still with a nice growl. I only sold them for my beloved Marshall JMP. I guess i've just never been an Ampeg lover.

Keep in mind that Fender's last big tube bass amp was the Sunn 300T/Bassman 300, not exactly an inspiring competitor for the SVT..

Fender hasn't been a factor in the pro bass amp market for ages. If they can change that, more power to them. It will take more than reusing an old name, though.

Hmm... I dunno. There are a lot of players of old Bassman's and of course a lot of Fender endorses will try one.

I haven't seen an old Bassman on stage as a bass amp in well over 30 years, and I doubt Fender bass endorsers here would buy it just because of the Fender name. Maybe Europe is different. I can't imagine much enthusiasm here at US $1700.

That guy looks like he has gas! ;)
I had a '74 P bass with two Ps on it. The P at the bridge sounds nice. It's a lot smoother than a Jazz bass bridge pickup.

IMO should be reversed though with the gd pup towards the neck . actually just sold this one and shipped it out yesterday.

I agree! Even the regular single pickup Ps sound better that way.

I always thought that made more sense too. Spector does that, and the old Guild Pilots were like that. Of course, there's no arguing with Leo's original layout either. ;)

Back then they liked to get the treble strings brighter and the bass string deeper. You can see the same thing with the way they angled the Strat and Tele lead pickups. But times have changed, and even they sound better angled the other way. :)
Leo also liked things really, really bright.
