Title: Joe Osborn RIP
Post by: Dave W on December 15, 2018, 06:25:28 PM
I saw from Jaime Longo (a/k/a 4005 here) on FB that Joe Osborn has died. Nothing on the news, nothing on his FB fan page, but found this posted on TB by his son:

Hey guys, it is with dreadful sorrow I must tell you all that Joe Osborn, my father died December 14th 3:13 pm, at home with his kids around him. He was diagnosed march 1st with pancreatic cancer which took his life at the age of 81. I put up a go fund me and if you, my talk bass friends could help me spread the word it would really help. Its called : the official Joe Osborn final expenses request: there could possibly be other fakes. Its posted on Lori land Osborn Facebook, my wife. I'm not asking for $ ...just help get the word out. Thanks again to all that sent birthday cards to dad. There is a lot of love and respect on this t.b. forum..for Joe and I sincerely thank you all
From the deepest part of my soul. Dave. o

RIP Joe. One of the true unsung greats.

This is really cool. Not really "a capella" as the description says, but with everything but the bass and drums stripped out. Not only can you hear JO's style really well, but it's a great way to appreciate the purity of Karen Carpenter's voice. Link doesn't play here. Just search for "Carpenters acapella" on YouTube.

This is the first one I tried. Link plays for me here.

Thanks for the tip!

Weird. No matter how I tried to post the link, it gave me the grumpy gray box.

His live stuff with Johnny Rivers is like a masterclass for playing bass at jams or open mics. The recorded tone he made didn't need isolation to be heard either. He left some great music and a shining example of how to play bass for all of us. RIP.
