Title: $20 Hondo
Post by: godofthunder on August 11, 2010, 11:57:06 AM
Looked Gibson enough for me to bite, pretty sure that is a Dimarzio in there  :) I tossed a 20 on it and it stuck so now I am the proud owner of a Hondo Pro. II ! Looks like fun. (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v102/godofthunder59/BzJEgj2kKGrHqEOKkUEMZUhbcnBMUtktYBw_12.jpg)

Good score I'd say, 20 bucks well spent.

I had the 8-string version back in the early 80s. The beginning of my "multi-string" obsession.

I hope for you it's a DiMarzio.

Really can't tell from that blurry pic.

Neck looks warped, but it might be the pic...

Oh what the heck. It's only 20 bucks!  :toast:

I sold them back in the day, pretty sure they came stock with Dimarzio's  :) neck looks straight enough to me

I have 2 Hondos, both with necks that won't adjust great.  The pups are not DiMarzios.  Maybe you're thinking of Ibanezes of around the same vintage.  Still well worth the $20!

Exactly!  I was gonna keep quiet but figured you'd see it that way.  The pups actually sound pretty good and if that one's DOA I've got a spare you're welcome to have.

Somewhere in one of my vintage Guitar Player mags there is an ad for Hondo and all of the guitars and basses in that ad featured Dimarzio's. So they did come stock with Hondo's at some point (late 70's??).

I just googled it and you're right.  In 1978 they were one of the first overseas makers to use them.  Maybe Scott has scored big time.

Right. If they're DiMarzios, consider that a bonus. If not, you still got your money's worth and more as long as it's playable.

Why are you kidding? That's what I'd do! IF it ended up being not a good player. Money well spent! Very "KISS Alive!-ish"

Now all I need are some saddles for the three point, anyone got a set ? Yes it is a Dimarzio  ;D I bet this thing is going to sound killer, lots 'O fun for 20 bucks.

COOL!  I can probably make you some saddles if no one has any.  They'd be aluminum.

Mine is DEFINITELY NOT a DIMARZIO.  It's mid 80's and obviously Hondo was going downmarket and just wanted the Dimarzio look.  No screw in pole pieces.  If you want it it's yours for $15 shipped.  If that's not reasonable PM me with a counter offer.

Sounds much better than the Squier Pbass pups I have.  If you just need a Pbass pup, PM me your address and I'll send you one.  I have a bunch of them I'm not gonna use.  Got pots?
