Gibson Basses / Re: Epi EB-3 Elitist ?
« on: January 21, 2011, 11:57:41 PM »
That is the most accurate and descriptive take on the respective strengths of the Elitist and the SG-RI that I have had the pleasure to devour. Love the wasp/bumblebee comparison - so apt! Excommunication proceedings herewith adjourned!

The Epi was a slow seller at the time, of course it was high-priced, but so  is the Casady Sig and that sells consistently well. The SG-RI, otoh, has become a staple product with Gibson so I think the approach of "modernizing it even more" was commercially sound. People play an SG-shaped bass for the look, legacy and the short scale, not for the varitone or a real mudbucker sound.

Aren't you mistaking Elijah Blue and Chas(tity), Ken? The former has no issues with his gender I believe,

It's guitarists that don't play riffs but chords.

I never took the gay rumors about Rod serious, too much Brit laddishness in him. The guy who values male kinship too much to spoil it with sex. Not ragingly homophobic as "The Killing of Georgie" showed, but just not sexually thrilled by men over prolonged periods of time.

That is not to say that he might not have had sex with men at one point, Bowie, Reed and Jagger all flirted with it while being mostly straight. But that "just testing!" approach doesn't make you gay in my book, my (romantic)definition of gay is wishing to share the rest of your life with another man.

On the other hand I have to bow (but not too deep!) to your expertise, Mark, it takes one to know one. All the gay guys I know tell me credibly that they need a bat of an eyelash when meeting someone to decide whether he's 1. gay, 2. "incurably straigt" (or even a "Zwangshete" or "obsessive-compulsive hetero") or 3. "has potential" (but doesn't know it yet). And they are always right too!

I know mothing about the Epi LPs except that I have a neck-thru prototype that is all-maple and sounds like a humbucking Ric. Pups on that one are closer to the neck indeed.

Not the old adage about the seamen found in his whale's stomach again, please! I always found him totally ungay, besides he likes soccer. That proves it.

I think they need a group session with that guy who worked with Metallica.

You're harsh, Dave! At least she has sculpted herself to look different from most of the competition. I thought she had a good phase around Silkwood and The Mask and possibly Moonstruck, things turned bad when she had that nose job removing the very pretty "ethnic bump" her nose ridge had originally.

Jennifer Aniston made the same mistake, she's been working for years making the "Greekness" in her unseen. We really should have more banana pictures with her.

And the fruit of that collaboration can be seen in "If I can turn back time" playing lead guitar (the kid with the blond hair)!

I s'ppose waking every morning to the eversame question "Do'ya think I'm sexy?" gets tiresome after a while. He probably wears leopard spots pyjamas too.

I thought Jack Bruce played on on the last Cream US tour and that was especially made for jim and it was a later (69) model? There were Gibson adverts with him playing it, they might even have been from the West, Bruce & Laing area.

Dark old Lady yet:

Eat your heart out Madonna (though given modern medicine and implants/replacements as well as the spiritual benefits of a Kabbalah-guided life, Ms Ciccone will probably live to be a 130 which gives her ample time to beat Cher).

Chance in a lifetime:

"The legendary vocalist reportedly is the owner of a 1,500-square-foot model train display, set up in his Beverly Hills home."

And I'll never hear "Hot Legs" quite the same again.
