Good morning, folks!
I got this Sterling by Musicman SUB Ray5 bass on the bench this morning.
It has a 2 band eq, and the small eq print have some burnt out SMD components. No big deal,
I get a new one from the importer - but on the back of the PCB says : SPECTOR BASS CS-1.
Just curious, is there a Spector - Musicman connection? I am aware KORG now owns Spector,
but does EB/Musicman have a KORG connection too?
-
Not that I've ever heard of, but Sterling by Musicman is not owned by Ernie Ball, it's a separate company licensed by Ernie Ball. Maybe some of the components are shared with Asian-made Spectors.

Ah, I see. I thought Sterling was just a lower price Musicman, as they appear on the Ernie Ball homepage.
EDIT: Oh, and I see they have the EB Musicman Stingray in shortscale now..
Damn, why did I have to see that :-\

I can see why you would think so. It's effective marketing. The licensee is Praxis Music Instruments, headquartered in the Los Angeles metro area. Ernie Ball is in San Luis Obispo, about 200 miles north.
Sterling by Musicman also recently came out with a short scale.

Oh, had no idea. Thanks for clearing that up, Dave.

Still doesn't answer the question of whether they sent you the right preamp.

Dave, maybe I was not too clear but it was the preamp board that sat in the instrument that was marked spector.. That's why I was puzzeled.

Sorry, I misunderstood.
