More T-40 action
« on: September 15, 2009, 08:26:18 PM »
If I was more cashed up I would have bid up to Aus$650 on this. A bargain for a good bass IMHO.

I finally got my hands on one yesterday.
A 1985 Sunburst.  It exceeds everything I've ever read about them.
An instant favorite.

Nice!  I had a black early 80's model with a rosewood board and it was a light one.  I guess that is kind of rare with these basses.

Having played these basses when I was younger I must admit to having GAS especially when they continue to come up at such low prices.

These are great basses, I bought one when they first came out in 78-79 They were so much better crafted than what Fender was offering up at the time and the pickups are just amazing ! Very close to a Gibson /Fender hybrid. A while back I bought a Black and Maple one, just as good as I remember !

Cool is right.
There was a white/black/maple 78-79 PAF for sale earlier this year on TalkBass...probably the most gorgeous bass I've seen in a long time.  I saw it a week too late, and have been jonesing for one since.

I keep hearing great things about those - but also that they're heavy.  I shy away from heavy basses...maybe fortunately for my budget.

I heard that, too. Funny enough, my son likes it a lot and took it to practice with his band..they couldn't believe how heavy the bass was in its original molded case. Wearing/playing it is another story: I'm using the same type of comfort strap that I use on my G&L L2K (which is also a bit on the hefty side), and the T-40 sits nicely and certainly doesn't feel like a tank. I don't gig, but I found myself pulling a 2-hour practice/jam session a few days ago.  Very comfortable, and I gotta say it again...it sounds terrific.  The acid test: I'm running it into a cheap-o Peavey TNT130, and it still sounds great.

This is quite easily the best bass purchase I've made in a real long time.
