Ibanez made slotheads in the early 70's. I have'nt seen a bound neck on them though.

If you think that bass is long scale then your significant other should treat all your allegations about size with great caution. The HOLY IMMACULATE THREE POINT would be sliding off the butt of the body if that were the case.

I'd say that one is indeed as longscale as the regular Epi EB-3. I can't see any difference in bridge positions:

Bass Amps & Effects / Re: Preamp not working after shipping. Mesa 400+
« on: April 10, 2018, 01:10:09 AM »
According to the 400 + schem., the heaters are not divided - nor are they fused, it appears. I would guess a simple solder/wiring fix. Being hooked up in parallel, one faulty preamp tube would not affect the others.

That makes it a quite easy and cheap fix. The advice to have it checked by a tech will anyhow reveal any scam attempt to get partially refunded for nothing if that's the case.

Yes, I suspect differences would be mostly in the power supply and output stage. 12 output tubes as opposed to 6 would draw a lot more current from the heater supply so I'd recon they are quite different in that area.

What are those pickups? I think I see something like a Gibson logo on one but they don't even fit the routes, and of course TB pickups never had logos that I've seen.

They are embossed BARTOLINI so I'd say one of these types:https://www.bartolini.net/product-category/bass-pickup/4-string-bass-pickup/soapbar-4-string-bass-pickup/

Probably not the Thunderbird one because they look slimmer and the routing also looks like it's been filled.

I agree also. I have'nt found any schematics of the 400+, only the 400. Since the 400+ uses 12 6L6 output tubes and the 400 use 6 6550 output tubes the heater supply might be divided somehow. What puzzled me at first was that the heaters on the output tubes are ok while the preamp tubes are not. That can be explained by Mesa using different supplies/fusing for preamp and output tubes respectivly. Hopefully it's just a shorted preamp tube which will not cost much and the only way to find out is having a qualified tech have a first look at it. Maybe PBG or amptech here have the correct schematics to validate or dismiss my theory?

Gibson Basses / Re: More Ripper prototypes
« on: April 06, 2018, 12:12:56 AM »
At what production volume does a prototype stop being a prototype? IMHO these have to be considered at least a short run. Odd how we never heard of these until a few years ago, or at least I hadn't.

My first memory of these was a natural one and that must have been during the Dudepit era, possibly around 2005-2006. It was'nt on Ebay or any other auction/sales site but must rather have been just two or three pics someone found at random coincidence. I remember it caused some confusion, because everything looked like it could be a legit prototype using the lovely early promo pic as reference, but the body shape was so off and could never simply be a modification. You'd have to add wood to the lower horn and there was no visible seam or grain/nuance difference.

Close to April 1st ;)
Maybe made for some artists? I dunno

I was thinking the same. Maybe a testrun handed out to various artists or otherwise suitable people.

Now there's so many afloat that I'm beginning to think they were actually the first serial produced model, though extremely shortlived even by Gibsons standards.  ??? Anyone know if these have regular serial nr's or are they in any way marked as being prototypes?

Guess that's what happens when you add water to the sunshine butt I'm sad to say I've never tried it.
