That picture is not an anomaly either. Happy Birthday to the most famous bassist not known for playing bass who ever lived.

Dave actually knew him. Both served in Germany.

Did they both have underage girlfriends too?  :P

Happy B Day King!  I seriously doubt I would have played the bass guitar if it weren't for Elvis.  We formed a band a few months after his death and every instrument was in place but the bass.  I volunteered for the job back in September 1977 with my just purchased $50 Kingston bass I bought from one of my biggest influences on the instrument, Mark Vizcarra.  This is a photo of him playing that first bass I bought all those years ago.

When he sold me the Kingston he whipped out this bass and proceeded to blow me away playing Deep Purple's "Lazy" on it.  I watched and learned from him every chance I could and eventually in July 1978 I took his place in the band Omega when he and his brother had to return back to the USA.  We were in Panama at the time with our Dads stationed in the long gone Canal Zone.

Both he and his brother were Navy Commanders and flew jets.  Their dad was a USAF fighter pilot so that only made sense.

I'm 62, no secret about that. Though it's a bit frightening to look at my kindergarten photo and realize that Harry Truman was still president at the time.

JFK - no idea of a Brit equivalent - who cares anyway, we're just an "aircraft carrier" for the US in Europe...  ;D
