Sounds like fun Denis!  Just keep it simple and it will start flowing in no time.  There is no better feeling than playing with a drummer who is solid.

So true, just have fun!

Live music is reinvigorating for middle-aged men. Like us.

Congrats and go for it.

He actually wants to play his organ and his sax

You guys are actually going to let this slide by with no comment?  :D :D :D

But seriously - Take the gig man! Nothing like playing music with other humans. I've never played surf, but I bet it would be a blast!

Congratulations! You'll find your confidence will grow as your competence does, and that will happen pretty quick when you're playing in a band.

Congrats Denis, have a blast man!

I have a deep and abiding love of surf/spy music and though I have played surf tunes in various bands over the years I have never been in a dedicated Surf Band. Gota get around to that one of these days but until then I will live vicariously through you!

Surf's up, dude!

That could be a lot of fun.

There's a band I haven't seen but followed on the net for a while that specialized in a kind of kick-ass surf music:  The Howlin' Thurstins
You might enjoy some of their stuff http://www.howlinthurstons.com/band.htm
Try this for some samples

Send us back a gig report.

Thanks, everybody! I sure appreciate all the well wishing and encouragement! I'll be sure to check out all the links and suggested bands.
I burned a copy of an out-of-print box surf set from Rhino Records called "Cowabunga". It's 4 cds broken down into 1960-1963, 1963, 1963-1967 and 1977-1995, totalling about 80 songs. Plus all the Man or Astroman?, Ventures, Addam's Family tv show soundtrack, and random surf cds the three of us have we can pull from a wealth of stuff.

I'm thinking about using my Jerry Jones. It's light, sounds good and looks total surf. What do you guys think? I knew it was a good idea to get this one.  :)

Nice!  Just note that it is a collectors item now that JJ is no longer going to produce the guitars......

Wait, what?

Surf green?  :)    I WILL buy me one of those Longhorns one day.

This thing is REALLY nice. Pretty much top of the line hardware. You'd like it. I found out after I bought it that this combo of green and black was an extra cost option.
Been thinking about flats for this one but I might wait and see how it does when played amongst other instruments.

I'm a rounds player generally but if that bass was mine it would have flats on it for sure.
