Nice score Joe. I just happen to run a high end flight case company called MT Cases. You can't get a better case. We can make you a form fit, fur lined, touring level flight case with all recessed hardware for $550. You will have to bring the bass to my office in Wood Dale for tracing/measuring.  :P

I assumed that was a re-fin. The wood is mis-matched and off center. Unless that's just how Gibson rolls....

I never really understood this. That may be true for an open string, but once you fret a string all the harmonics move, don't they?

That's a good point. I never thought of that.  ???

I'd like to see the old neck pickup position come bass on 4003's, maybe even with a toaster

There seems to be a lot of nostalgia around the 1/2'' spacing, but the fact is, the pickup is more correctly centered at the octave harmonic (as is the treble pup) in the 1'' location. Having said that, there's not a whole lot of difference in tone between my Chris Squire (1/2'') and my 4003S (1''), both with the same "hot" toaster in the neck position.

Woo, that's pretty! I'd like to see checkerboard binding come back, even if I'm really an "unbound" kind of guy.  :P

When did these come back? I wasn't paying attention for a while, and next thing I know, there are new Rics with full width inlays! Kinda cool, though I'm more of a dot fan myself. I don't see anything about them on the Ric web site. Pics?

H'mmm what about the spector Rex Brown?

Fugly!

As for a 2+2 headstock - an Ibanez Iceman style would probably work. (Sorry, this 3+1 Greco is all I could find)

I guess the pick up is a bit on the position of a Rickenbacker bridge pick up. Maybe it goes a bit to the front, but itt'll be in 'middle' position.

My 2 cents: Put it in the sweet spot - centered directly below where the 36th fret harmonic would be. That's where a Ric "bridge" pickup sits. Modulus Quantum Sweet Spot models have one pup in that location as well.

The pickup looks like a Bill Lawrence.
The rest looks like poo.

I've actually made poo that looks better than that. OK, maybe not, but that thing looks like it was "designed" by a 3rd grader.

I use that one around St. Pat's day.  ;)

And I get the Dragon reference! I even know he used to be a Beach Boy. And I'm "only" 44.

Have you guys seen what Musician's Friend is selling Les Pauls for?  :o They're the low budget flat tops (my favorite actually), but $699.99 is a STEAL! I love my (shiny red) '94 LP Special.  :-*
