They should have included the option to close that port.  ;)





On my build the main goal was to be able to reach the staple inside.
But the bonus was the projection to oneself while playing. (the right arm is not obstructing it by the way)

Haha yes, but this was 10 years ago. It was the second instrument I ever built.
And my goal was way too ambitious (to build an acoustic bass that was loud enough to keep up with an acoustic guitar). 
A few times during the build proces I was about to throw it into the fire pit in the backyard.
But it did get built eventually.
I did not succeed in making it any louder than a regular acoustic bass.
