Title: NBD Ibanez Destroyer DTB400
Post by: John Schoen on September 12, 2014, 07:38:18 AM
Ibanez recently released this bass in the US and when I asked Hoshino Benelux they told me that it would not be available in Europe. I have been lusting for an Explorer type bass for a while and this one looked just right, so I ordered one from Sweetwater.

The "top" strap button is located on the neck plate and the bass balances perfectly. The neck is slimmer than the Precision necks that I normally prefer but it is not too narrow (40 mm at the nut) so I will probably get used to it. Sounds good, looks great, I am happy.  :)

Yes, I wanted to review it for the mag, but Hoshino Benelux told me the same. A pity.

Like that very much! I used to lust over the Destroyer as a kid in the '80s.

I love their take on the Explorer theme. Very elegant. The Ibanez headstock fits the design perfectly, and the cream pickups are so retro 70's... Great looking bass.

I like that a lot! If I can find one cheap locally I'd grab it.

I have had time now to try out different settings and amps. Put through my Ampeg Micro VR it has a great rock sound with a "bark" at the start of each note. It really comes to life with my Ashdown Drophead tube combo, it sounds HUGE when played through that.
The bass is very comfortable to play, resting my arm on the slope positions my hand in a perfect playing position over the P pickup. Fit and finish is very good, this bass is definitely worth the $500 street price.

Congrats!  Nice that they made it long scale, that's the only thing I'd change about my '84. Great price, MIK?  Are they offering a case or gig bag?  Pretty slim pickings for Explorer types these days.

It is made in Indonesia. It comes without a gig bag, Ibanez has the BGBDTB bag for it.

Ibanez has the BGBDTB bag for it.

Thanks, I found a picture and price but it doesn't seem anyone actually sells them.

I was never crazy about the little "hooks" they added to the body to get out of lawsuit territory. I'd just as soon pick up a used Iceman for $250.
