Have any of you Ric owners ever tried one of these??

Maybe combine one of those with a cheap little used amp for some sonic options might be worth it!!

An additional question if you will:
Would a regular instrument cable work from the Ric-O-sound jack to that box, or is a special cable still required?

No. You need a stereo cable.

Thanks, Bert!

Any tip-ring-sleeve cable will do it. Sometimes they are called balanced cables, sometimes TRS, sometimes stereo, but you can find one in any music store.

Seems a "Y" cable is a simpler and cheaper option, two plugs and a stereo jack. They actually reference that in their FAQ but obviously believe that a metal box hanging off your bass (or 2 -10'-20' ft cords going to it sitting on your amps) is a better solution. You're still going to have to Y it off to go to 2 inputs. Or have I completely missed something as usual?

A Y cable is simpler and cheaper if you know how to solder. I made mine from about 25' of Radio Shack microphone cable with a 1/4" TRS male on one end and a female on the other, going into a Y cable with about 5' of cable on each leg. I wrapped some black tape on the leg for the neck pickup so I'd know which one it was.
I ran the neck pickup to a Kustom 200 with 2 D140's and the bridge wint to a Fender Vibrosonic with a D130. I liked it so much I wired my Thunderbird in stereo too! But that was long ago and far away; now both my Rick V63 and T-Bird are both mono.

I called the local store here, they have a 10 foot y cable for 10 bucks, stereo on one end for the Ric-O-Sound, split into two monos which I think that should do it. I may grab one on the weekend, and rent an amp just to see what I come up with for sounds.

I made my own for less than $20. got the plastic box from radio shack, had the jacks. still if you have to buy jacks it's an inexpensive project. it's nice to have, but I rarely use it.
