I'm not expecting an authentic reissue of the EB-2. Just wondering what will distinguish it from the 335 bass.

Scale length maybe?

Hear hear.. If they start thinkin ´bout tweaking the great mudbucker to fit more modern tastes,
who knows - it might look like the ´new´ VW beetle.

The ultimate goal would be something that really captured looks, sound and feel of the original, wouldn´t it?

That ought to be their goal. It would be nice and it could be done, if they want to.

That's the key, "If they want to."  The NR was OK but disappointing and it could have been much better (truer to its heritage) with just a few small details (headstock, bridge, tuners, chrome pups, body thickness, volute).  Did I miss anything?

After reading everyone's posts and thinking about it, I do agree I wouldn't want the current SG neck pup in the new EB2.  So, if the only other choice is taking a mud bath, I would be in.  I hope this one is more true to the past than the NR.

Maybe - just maybe - the Memphis custom shop has some level of independence that the Nashville production lines don't. We can only hope.

Well, at least they really know how to build beautiful hollow/semi hollow guitars.

The Führer won't return and neither will the mudbucker. Both absences are positive for the progression of mankind. Anything seriously emulating a mudbucker today would see the instrument equipped with it returned by most customers with the remark: "Something is wrong with it, it has no treble!"

The mudbucker was probably more instrumental in the demise of the EB-2 than it was in its rise.

Just wondering what will distinguish it from the 335 bass.

I'm thinking:

- scale
- lack of full sustain block (the 335 has one, no .... or am I thinking of the Midtown?)
- pups and position(s)
- varitone (unlikely)
- bridge (I hope not)
- finishes offered
Robert Plant and Jimmy Page (drummer and bassist of Deep Purple, Jake!)

Midtown has a chambered mahogany body with maple top.

Contrary to what James Bond says, a good Gibson should be stirred, not shaken.

I've decided that the EB Bass must have been named in honor of Shemp Howard's "ee bee bee bee" sound.

I was chatting with the guys at the HOG this morning and they think the EB2 custom shop bass could be hugely expensive, more than the 335!  Yikes, that is a scary thought.  That could keep me out of the market if that's the case.  Should be interesting to see.
