Earlier versions than that. Like James O'Gwynn's 1957 version. The song in its present form goes back to Jimmie Rodgers although parts of it are much older.

My wife's a big country fan... the list of people she's seen is frightening... she saw Bill Monroe ways back... often winds my buddy up about seeing Johnny Cash (he's a big fan who never did) - she is not a hoarder/collector, but kind of regrets giving away her autographed programme collection...!

I'm still looking for a copy (recording) of the "Scottsville Squirrel Barkers" (Bernie Leadon & Chris Hillman - ooo, just found out it's on CD) and "Shiloh" (Don Henley & Al Perkins)...

I like bluegrass, good modern stuff like Alison Kraus, even some of Emmylou Harris' stuff, and old stuff... loved the Dillards... don't know enough stuff... With my wife coming from the "Bluegrass State", she's not a fan, curiously enough... I have a mandolin but would love to get a decent one...

Me, too!  Great pipes and breath control.  She really could (probably still can) hold a note.  That's a great, straight-ahead version of the song.

I saw a discussion of Dolly elsewhere today, her plastic surgery was mentioned. Best comment: "Bondo still doesn't hide the fact that it's a '59 impala..."  ;D

Saw Bill Monroe twice--both times at a little theater in Wilmington Ohio---Super ornate theater built in the 1920's, and pretty much left alone after that...was like doing the time warp or something...stepping back 50 or 60 years...

I miss my old RB 100, but I don't miss banjo tuners...will have to get another banjo sometime (maybe soon).

I don't like modern country at all, but I do like the old stuff...we still play stuff like "Crazy" etc.  the old stuff often has nicely crafted melodies and changes---all of the elements of music.

Was just thinking, I haven't heard the Flying Burrito Bros in ages...need to go looking for some of their stuff.

I have a really good Burritos compilation called "Farther Along", and I still prefer Gram's version of "Wlid Horses", loved his solo stuff, and Emmylou...

Anyone like the Ozark Mountain Daredevils...? love their stuff...
