Played the burgandy almost every set last night.What a great bass! The bridge that Dale built sounds fantastic! I havent put it on ameteryet but my guess is its between 7.5 to 8k it matches the toaster in output perfectly.The tone has a nice midbass growl without the clickity clack when you dig on it.Magic!

I believe that is my old one!  I bought it at a pawn shop here in Austin where the electronics were really messed up.  It had a Gibson Marauder guitar pickup in the treble position.  I bought a pickup from a Ric Forum member in Spain or Portugal.  Sent everything to Dale and he did the refret refin on the fretboard and polished her up and wired the new pickup in for me.  It looked and sounded great.  Glad it is gigging again!  Last I knew it was with a collector up in the Northeast.

This was my April 73 Eggplant Burgundyglo 4001 (MD1582). It was stolen four years ago.





It was stock except for the horseshoe bridge p/u that I installed in it when the original bridge p/u died.

Doh! (8^(I)  Shows you how often I look at my messages!  I can't remember the collector guy's name but I remember he paid a bunch of $$ for a 21 fretter several years back.  Wish I still had mine that I bought in the late 1990's for $500.

It was pretty beat.  This is the only photo I have of it.  Had a changed treble pickup and tuners.  Needed to be restored but I sold it to Daryl Jones (Lowdbass) who in turn sold it to Bob Hynoski (Swami). I tried to buy it back from Swami but it was long gone.  It was a January '71 bass.  Had a sound all its own due to the different positions (slightly) of the pickups because the bridge was moved forward 1/2 inch or so. 

Here is your bass as it was when I got it home.  Looks much nicer now!

Yeah the burgandy looks nothing like it did when you first got it.Dale did an outstanding job on that bass!The fact he was able to save the original finish is nothing short of amazing!He told me he had the original bridge rechromed as well.It was seriously screwed up electronically when i got it.The bridge pickup was the only one that worked.I got a 4001 wiring diagram and rewired it swapping the cut cap for a straight lead.It sounds amazing.In fact better than all my other ricks!Dales fretwork is nothing short of masterwork!It plays like butter!One things for sure though,That bass has been around the block in its life

On a 21 fretter (with a 1/2 inch spacing), the neck pickup is located in relation to the string's natural harmonics like on any post-75 4001 or 4003 with a 1" spacing. The mid growl must be from the bridge pickup.
