Aretha Franklin / Amazing Grace
« on: May 02, 2019, 06:44:14 PM »
I just saw this doc / concert movie yesterday in our local art cinema.
It's well worth it!

The gospel choir is phenomenal.
Of course I thought there was not nearly enough screen time for the rhythm section:
Bernard Purdie, Chuck Rainey, and Cornell Dupree. But you can hear them.
Basses: Gibson lpb-1, Gibson dc jr tribute, Greco thunderbird, Danelectro dc, Ibanez blazer.  Amps: genz benz shuttle 6.0, EA CXL110, EA CXL112, Spark 40.  Guitars: Danelectro 59XT, rebuilt cheap LP copy

I saw it on the back of a magazine I bought and I made a mental note. Thanks for this!

Also I think it benefits from big screen / big sound system experience. Lot of people on the screen. I don't have a particularly large TV by modern standards.

I saw the movie in a cinema yesterday.
Wow! It brought tears to my eyes.
Aretha was incredible. And so was the choir and the band.
I didn't even mind the blurry, out of focus and chaotic registration.

Edith has been wanting to see that for a while, I gotta invest!
