I miss lurking at the Last Bass Outpost.  Hi guys, been away a while.  I missed the personalities and the information here.

I always liked this video here.  I sometimes miss the 90s more than I care to admit.

The Hurt Locker winning has torqued off a lot of vets.  Some inaccuracies can be forgiven (you'll always have them, real military life, even in a war zone, isn't entertaining), but others are harder to swallow.

The most accurate part of that movie was the locals selling pirate DVDs on camp.

Edit:  I don't want to sound like I hated the movie.  It was a decent action movie.  The parts that I'm not so okay with were mostly the behavior of the movie's makers.  Their claims that it is an accurate portrayal of life in Iraq in 2004.

All that being said, I agree with Uwe.  Inglorious Basterds was awesome.  Not since Hogan's Heroes has anyone had any real fun with Nazis, and I was glad to see someone irreverent enough to do so again.

I saw Joan Jett last fall.  I think bass was playing a white t-bird that night.

True.  But there is also this study to consider.  Cell phones may protect you from Alzheimer's

Hey, I want to throw my thanks in there too.  I don't really post a lot, but I read a lot here.  Like others have said, I love the low drama and high camaraderie.  I also love that so many of you have your steadfast opinions, but disagreements do not devolve into name calling or other mean spirited childishness.  This place is truly refreshing compared to most of the rest of the internet.

I followed your link, and then looked at The Haunted Vagina you spoke of.  Then I looked at google and read some of the titles of the author's other works.  The Haunted Vagina is his 14th novel.  Look at some of the other intriguing titles he's penned.

I get the impression he might be the Troma of the literary world.

I guess I'd like to ask, did the literary world NEED a Troma?

The Outpost Cafe / Re: AVATAR in 3D!!!
« on: December 22, 2009, 08:51:28 AM »
I have a friend that worked on it for over a year. The technology sounds pretty stellar but I don't know if I want to see yet another movie where the military is made out to be the bad guy, taking advantage of innocent indigenous people.

There was a good bit in the beginning where the male lead points out the difference between the military, and the mercenary like force sent to work with the evil big corporation.

Unfortunately I only got to see it in 2D, as one of the group I went to go see it with had to work the next day, and didn't want to wait an extra 40 minutes to catch the 3D one.  I will be going back next week sometime to catch it I guess.

I really liked it.  But ... I fear it underlines the modern director's over reliance on digital vistas to wow us, and hopefully distract us from paper-thin plots and cardboard characters.  I told one person that and they thought that meant I hated it, not quite.  Hell, I intend to by the Blu-Ray the moment it comes out.  But I don't want to list my criticisms until all who wanted to see it have.

Bass Amps & Effects / Re: Marshall bass amps

I have one of the 30 watt MB combos for plonking around in the living room.  The "modern" channel tries to do the super clean sparkly tone, but comes up just a little short I think.  The vintage channel is glorious, I frequently wish I could get that sound out of my big boy rig.

I've considered getting the MB 450 to do that.  Mark, if you or anyone else gets one, I would love to hear an honest review of the beast.
