Gibson Basses / Re: Music videos that feature Thunderbirds

It might only be something as banal as changing the width or the length of the strap. And I dare not say it, but TBirds are not the most ergonomic creation on earth, tough it's difficult imagining you of all people playing anything else.

Do consider changing to ballerinas before giving up performing!

Flats, doubt that, heels do wonders for my legs :)  The Birds are pretty comfy for me and I keep my strap length a bit short, as for me that feels better. The reality of it is that most bands do not play for 3 hours at a furious pace, and it's not too surprising that I'm having issues considering my age. The Nasty Habits has been around for 20 years, which, for a cover band is pretty good, we'll play 2-3 more years and I'll retire from it, a decision that I'm at peace with. It'll be time to move on to other things in life, I want to travel more and quite simply, enjoy life with my husband, he's been patient and very supportive of me for far too long.

It was around July or so 50 years ago this year that I started playing the bass, my first was a Japanese EB-0 copy by Mateo, wish I still had it!
I'm not going to quit playing the bass, but there will come a time when I will not be able to play at the level needed, during the last set of a show in March my left hand cramped and froze up, it was frightening and quite difficult to continue.
I've had this happen on occasion.  It's really scary when you're playing live.  Sorry if I'm telling you something you already know, but make sure to stretch often and stay hydrated.

Paice has by now become something like the spokesman and voice of reason of the band, has his own podcast (drum tribe) etc. He says it's something he grew into when Jon Lord left the band. Of course, he's also the sole remaining first line up member and one of the Blackmore-Lord-Paice virtuoso instrumental triumvirate Purple was always identified with.

Roger is still the social worker and glue that holds the band together. And he's happy that Bob Ezrin relieved him of production duties because taking care of those went always at the cost of his recorded bass playing, he says. By the time he got around to that, there wasn't much room to play anymore.

The Outpost Cafe / Re: Sam Ash on the decline

Sam Ash holds a special place in my heart. I'm sorry that the Huntington, NY store is already gone. It was the best-stocked store in driving distance from the north shore of Long Island where I grew up. As a young geeky aspiring rocker in the 80s, I constantly begged my mom to drive me the hour it took to get there, so I could meekly try to get the staff to let me play various basses.  It was the time period when you might still hear "Stairway" from the guitar area mingling with endless repetitions of "Jump" from the ever-growing keyboard section.

I bought my first instrument there, a terrible Montoya thing that my mom paid $50 for at a used sale, as well as its replacement, the Ibanez Blazer that I still have. Got my first amp and pedals there too.

I hope they don't shut down all the locations. I'll have to go check out the remaining Manhattan store and see what's there.

They're playing it live already.

Made in Japan 1972 it is not, but for a bunch of geezers born '45 (2x) and '48 (2x) as well as a nascent musician born '79, it ain't bad.  8)

Even Paice gets more camera time than Glover!

It's good, I like it, like the live sound too.

The Outpost Cafe / Re: Duane Eddy …

One of the greats, RIP.

John Entwistle - a rocker at heart trapped in a mod band - supposedly credited Eddy's deep twangy guitar tones as his inspiration for playing bass with a lot of treble. I'm sure he's not the only bassist inspired by Eddy.

I was impressed with the shorter heels! I'm eyeing retirement from the band scene myself. 4 more years will mark 50 years of gigs. "When I'm, sixty four..."

Tom, a man of great prudence, has decided to banish all undue excitement from his life.  :-X

Nostalgia time tonight, way back before the Stones became just another Stones tribute band.

Never cared much for the song, but Bill is so friggin' cool in that vid, the gentleman bass player!
