Nice and a bit strange animals these! First time I ever laid eyes on a Gibson doubleneck must have been somewhere in the 60's, in a picture from the movie Spinout, and in the hands of Elvis. A six-string bass on top of a six-string guitar. I was flabbergasted! That animal! And Elvis P! An unlikely combination! Next time around, it was Jimmy Page. Somehow the strange guitar kinda suited him better.
One would have thought that there was some kind of readyness for the Elvis-Gibson-pic, as the photo of Dylan with the F Jazz was already spread through the record business. But Elvis...
What's next? Cat Stevens with a Bach T-bird? Enrico Caruso with a double-bass? Fontella Bass with a guitar? Will it ever end?
I always associate the Vox Phantom with Phil "Fang" Volk in Paul Revere and the Raiders, although he played a Hofner Club and Epi Embassy onstage with them too.
Re Alice in Wonderland: Much as I love Tim Burton and Johnny Depp, I thought that a disappointment. It was exactly what it professed to be: A Walt Disney kiddie flic with a bit of Tim Burton quirkiness and dark charm thrown in, stalled by a lamentably lame plot and a nauseating attempt at a politically correct ending ("Girls, do something with you life and the sky iwill be your limit!").
Somehow, I had expected a lot more. As disappointing as his Planet of the Apes remake.
I don't feel so bad now about launching my soon-to-be brother-in-law's '72 Pinto off a local freeway on ramp a couple months after getting my license!
I thought Sara Jessica Parker had some property over there somewhere...
I don't know why everyone is so excited when all the Russkies do is show a healthy, unadulterated interest in all things American. The day they stop sending spies to you and start sending them to India and China only is the day you should fear.
If those run clean you could get two and run your stereo through it!
