Title: Tastefully modded EB0 from my Facebook feed.
Post by: Alanko on April 25, 2018, 11:08:49 AM
This bass might already be known in these circles. Anyway, I follow a page called 'Reptile Dentistry' that documents some of the cruder guitar modifications that surface on the net.

Today they posted these images!

What is there not to like?

I'd buy it but it's missing the G string saddle. That's a deal killer for sure. Otherwise it's perfect.

If it were on the 'bay, it would be listed as having "honest play wear".  ???

Barn find rare opportunity to own a mint Gibson Jack Bruce signature EB3 SG EB0 bass as used by Leslie West of Mountain and Jack Bruce of Mountain. Great retro vintage tones from the original Gibson "Muddy Bucket" pickup and extra tones thanks to a pair of two ultra rare pre-CBS 1957 Fender Jazzmaster Bass pickups hand wound by Leo Fender himself.

Some of those are reasonable mods though (like bridge improvements on an LP Special).  I mean, back in the 60s nobody knew these would be worth what they are now, and playability was the larger concern.

True, if they were made long ago. Unfortunately you still see hack jobs that are more recent.

There was a guitar builder/repairer here -- I can't bring myself to call him a luthier -- who hacked up a number of vintage Les Pauls to install his heavy bridges. The bridges were crude and his workmanship was cruder. The guitars and basses he made were crude too, but he once made a guitar for Prince, so some Prince-worshipers think he was great.
