Anyone have a Epi Explorer case they would like to sell ? My RS Explorer Bird is in dire need of a case ! It came with a gig bag and I hate it. :P Or maybe a good custom case maker, anyone know one realativley close to upstate NY ? (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v102/godofthunder59/orangebass2.jpg)

Yikes, that's got to be a tough one, we know how hard it is to find one for an NR TB!
-
The Gibson cases are rare (and absof***inlutely hüge!) and the Epi cases (not as friggin' huge) were deleted alongside the model ... Does it need to be a case? The Warwick Rockbag gig bag for Explorer/Stryker, Buzzard and B.C. Rich basses is well-padded and gives reasonable protection.
-
Yeah Uwe it has to be a case, I just can't stand gig bags.
-
Please don't post pics of that bass again. It's just too beautiful...
Erm: You could make or order a flightcase? A home made flightcase with pro material isn't much more expensive than a brand case.

I will discipline him shortly!
Lets see some shots of you playing this beauty Scott.
I love that bass!......you never did tell us (or did I miss it?) how it sounds and what you think of it.
-
Wish I was close enough to buy it myself but postage to Australia would be twice the price :-\

Ooops, I just snapped that up :-[, it was too tempting being in Europe and all and those cases can gobble up Non Revs, RDs and Rev TBirds too, not just Explorers. Seller's description says he has more in limited stock, but if this is the last one and you would like to have it, Scott, even at the price of shipping it oversize to the US, then you can have it from me.
Uwe
PS: I have a hunch these guys' site might just be outdated, but you should give it a try ...

Someone sent me a link, oldpuppy I think, for a source here in the states. I have to check the specs before I buy, this bass is rather large. :o My review of the bass ? Well it is very well made, plays great and the Lindy Fralin pups sound fantastic ! The bass is much lighter than it looks, very comfortable to play. Run through my Hiwatt it sounds like you would expect it to, ghosts of JE. It came with a Badass I bridge, I put a BA II one it, I like the lower profile. The bass came with a Presicion profile. I expected a 70's profile neck but it is more like a '51. Roy from RS guitars is going to make me a J profile neck in in the near future. If you are looking to have a build done I highly reccomend RS Guitars.

i didn't checked the link first, so I thought you bought a Fenderbird, Uwe... But it's a case.
-
What? and not a word of thanks
Uwe's rueful insert:
Master of feline psychologists will you ever forgive my unworthy self?!!!   :-\ :-\ :-\
Danke, danke, danke
- that was a great tip, I have four Explorers, but only three cases for them!
End of grovelling insert!
That didn't take you long Uwe ;)
Not much chance of finding one here so I've already got my mate Anthony building one for me.

I notice they relisted another one saying it was their last one and after just a few hours put up the "Seller ended this listing early because the item is no longer available for sale" sign.
You again Uwe?
-
I'm innocent this time!!!
-
Sorry man too narrow. Did you get the vids I sent?
-
I did thanks but I have zero time to build a case ! We are moving, today I am painting the barn and getting ready for a open house today, I'd much rather build a case.
-
mmm nice bass.the fralin pickups are interesting too , i dont see them on thier website.are they blade or polepiece types under the shiny chrome covers?
-
kind of pricey but I guess it's supply and demand

Plus postage to Oz for me! :-[
I just emailed 36 different music shops here in Australia to see if any of them happen to have one sitting out the back gathering dust .
-
To be fair: The Gibbie case is much more rugged (and obstructive) than the Epi one.
-
of course you're right, Uwe. I didn't consider that. :-[

True but look at how the Epi headstock is jammed up against the side of the case
-
The Gibson Explorers of the 80's were medium scale, Are Epis long scale ? I'm pretty sure they are. Anyway to short a case for my RS.
-
Yep the Epi is 34"
Here is an Epi stuffed into a Gibson case. Notice the bend in the side of the case where the headstock is? and the fact that its hard up against it.

There is One new Epi Explorer bass case in Oz  I got replies from most of the 36 shops but ended up with one guy who had one that he had never sold gathering dust out the back of his shop.
My mate Anthony has the bass in Sydney after he picked it up for me from the seller. He has kindly offered to build a case for it on the condition that I bring over some extra special wines in November when I will be staying with him for a mutual friends wedding. I'm in Adelaide (about 1500kms away) and said mutual wedding friend is coming to Adelaide on the 20th June so he is going to bring it over with him. Excellent deal from my perspective as long as Anthony doesnt make a big heavy crate of a case.
I have organised with the shop guy who has the Epi case that I will wait and see how this custom case turns out before committing myself to the $180 he wants for his case.
Is this actually interesting to anyone or am I just blabbing on irrelevantly? :-[
-
No! I think it's great!! It's always nice to find things you need hidden and gathering dust in shops.
And the wine part's nice too! Bring some if you ever visit Holland;)
-
Last time I went back to Europe I certainly did take 2 bottles ;D
And thanks for the invite Chris P 8)

Well the sad conclusion to this story is that the idiot up on the Gold Coast in Qld shipped over 3000kms to me a T-Bird case in the mistaken belief that it would fit an Explorer. Even after I emailed him the Epi Model number of the case and the measurements and made the point that it had to be this case because no other case will take an Epi Explorer.
I shipped it straight back at his expense with a note thanking him for wasting my time. Grrr so I still cant find a case >:(
-
Why don't you just get a sturdy gig bag like the one from Warwick Rock Bag that fits the Buzzard, B.C. Rich and Stryker/Explorer beasts? Any other bass (including TBirds and RDs), a Flying V perhaps excepted, will also fit into it.
Experience teaches that once you have bought the gig bag, a cheap case will pop up nearby!
-
Right now my explorer bird resides in a Dean gig bag, the move has me occupied i'll find a case soon enough.
-
Thanks guys, my WEST lives in a Fender padded gig bag quite happily and I was just thinking about that option. I'm sure you are right UWE. Murphy lurks waiting for the money to be spent.
Unabashed excuse to post a pic of said WEST.
