Other Bass Brands / Peter Cook Basses, two more found.
« on: June 28, 2023, 10:08:30 PM »
Hi to all.

I have news on two more Peter Cook instruments.

From what Peter and I discussed, it seems that his total output of custom instruments, including his work with The Who and several other famous artists and the Axis Basses and Guitars, would be around 65. So, it's always of an interest to me, when another one turns up.

Below are links to another two that have turned up.

Any input or any news on other Peter Cook instruments out there, that I have not yet seen, would be gratefully received.

The Bass Zone / Peter Cook - A look in the attic/loft!
« on: November 14, 2016, 12:52:44 AM »
Hi to all at LBO, especially Kenny!!

Where have all those squirrels gone!!!! ;)

Peter and I have been trying to get another "get together" and it has finally arrived - going tomorrow!

I am taking my Axis Guitar, that is being rehomed to Chez Cook and I think he is more than a little excited!! ;)
http://flatericbassandguitar.blogspot.co.uk/2014/09/peter-cook-axis-guitar-one-of-only-8.html

We have often spoke about the stuff he had in his old attic - papers, drawings, customers requirements etc, etc.

Fingers crossed. . . . . I think he has dug it all out and we are going to go through it all!

I too, am just a little bit excited!

Will keep you posted.

Cheers. :)

The Bass Zone / Peter Cook
« on: November 30, 2015, 02:03:31 AM »
Hi to all at LBO.

For Kenny and all others interested in  Peter Cook's work, there is a news update.

I was due to visit Peter early on this year but it didn't happen as Peter has suffered
some more ill health.

Fast forward to now and things are looking a little rosier!

He is back in the loop and gigging again and we are arranging a meet, sometime early
next year.

See here:

Will keep you posted.

The Bass Zone / Peavey Basses and Guitars - The Peavey Story.
« on: September 16, 2015, 08:33:30 AM »
Hi to all in Outpostland! :)

I put this up in a forum, over here in the UK.
http://basschat.co.uk/topic/88904-peavey-t-40-basses/page__view__findpost__p__2852868

If you read it, it's self explanatory but in essence, it's all about Peavey, from day one.

Some of my content is in the book, which was written be Willie Moseley but only a tiny bit.
The rest of the book is full of really interesting stuff, some clever thinking and a fresh look at
making instruments, made them break new ground.
Loads of photos!!

Well worth a read - just finished mine and I read pretty much all of it except the last few pages which
was all about the pointy head era!
Say no more! :)

Cheers.:)

The Bass Zone / Five years on and 200 posts! :)
« on: December 23, 2014, 03:34:03 AM »
Festive greetings to all at LBO!  8)

As Kenny and quite a few others may know that I joined up here for "Bass Interest" and
because Kenny has a Peter Cook!
There aren't that many around. :)

A lot of you would also be aware that I started a blog - mainly about bass but some guitar.

Five years down the road, I have now reached my 200th post!!

I have created a directory of some of the more popular features, to make it easier to search
for what you may be interested in.

If you go here:
http://flatericbassandguitar.blogspot.co.uk/2014_12_01_archive.html
all will be explained. :)

Hope you all have a great holiday and wish you all a healthy and prosperous new year.

Cheers. :)

Other Bass Brands / Good enough for both Roger and Ritchie!
« on: October 27, 2014, 05:47:38 AM »
As a Peavey fan, it's great to see respected artists using one of the
brands that you favour.

The pictures say it all!
Wouldn't you agree?

I have already got two Foundations - really great basses!
It seems Roger and Ritchie agree. :)

I have been hunting for a white one for ages - rare on this side of the pond, with the White "Line around the head"

Finally got one and off to rehearsals tonight to enjoy the experience.

Will put some pics up of it, when I can get around to it.

Cheers.:)

Hi to all in LBO land. :)

If anyone is interested. . . . . .

I have recently had the pleasure of working with Lars Mullen, of Guitar & Bass Magazine.

He has done a big feature on some of my collection, which is in the shops now.
Vol 25 No. 10.

3000 words, descriptions - stories behind them and lots of pics.
If you get a copy, I hope you will enjoy it.  8)

All the best.

Cheers. :)

The Outpost Cafe / UWE, this one is for you! :)
« on: December 06, 2013, 09:49:11 AM »
I have just read this, at the base of your posts. . . . .

"Dear fabulous Henry J: All I want from you - and not necessarily for Christmas either,
I'll pay (and wait) for it! - is a nice doubleneck SG bass, long scale fretless and short
scale fretted with the D and G octaved. Surely that is not asking too much?
Doesn't even need rosewood if that helps ..."

What a great "Dear Santa" note!! :)

I'd love to help but you missed out what colour you prefer!!! LOL  ;D

I hope you get your wish. . . . . Have you been good??

You don't want to end up with a bag of coal!!

Cheers. :)

Here they are.

Hi to all of you at LBO :)

I still pop back to see what you are all up to and thought that some of you
may be interested in the story of the Peavey T Series.

As I am a big fan of the T's, I have documented a great deal about them,
over the last 5 or 6 years but this feature is different, this one has a lot of
input from Chip Todd, who very kindly agreed to help me with this feature.

Before the T Series, guitars were made in a more traditional way - it was Peavey
who pioneered the use if duplicating machines, the sort of thing to make thousands
of gun stocks all the same and was also the first company to make guitars with the
new CNC technology - along with several other firsts, which Chip goes into a lot
of detail about.
This was a guitar that was proudly Made in the USA and both guitar and bass
are truly great instruments but seem to have been passed over for more
"fashionable" instruments, over the years but are now finding many fans, who
either fancy something a little different, both in looks and performance or who
no longer wish to follow the herd.

I have found what he has said to be very interesting and there is plenty more to come.

Being in a Blog format, the story goes backwards, so click here and then scroll down
to October 16th - read that one, then scroll up to the next, until you get to the latest
entry.

I you have any questions, drop them on here and I will add them to the list for Chip.

Hope you enjoy it.

Gibson Basses / Gibson RD Artist Switching??
« on: February 13, 2012, 12:09:42 PM »
I'm almost certain that someone will be able to help with this. ;D

When I first had my RD, the switches need a quick squirt - nothing major,
just to sweeten things up.
I found there was a "Sweet" spot  on the mode switch, that made the
whole thing a lot more interesting.
The back position, I don't bother with, to be honest - compressed lower powered
on the neck and tinny on the bridge - both together, alright but I dont use that.

Mid position, fine - treble boost fine but there is an "inbetween", just before the
switch goes all the way.
So good, that for a day or two I set the switching to that selection, using a piece
of card, so no harm was done.
As I have been thinking about selling it, I have been using it again and over the weekend
couldn't resist trying it again.
I have played another Artist and a couple of Std's but never another Artist against mine.

So. . . . on the MODE switch, could someone point out which contacts should make/break
in the 3 positions - just so I can check.
I have to admit that engaging the "Supercharger" mode makes me think I should hang onto it.

Don't get me wrong, I have always been more than happy with the way it is/came to me and
always cuts through very well when gigging but I would like to see how yours is wired - Jules.
Uwe and anyone else.  :)

Stands back and waits for deluge of replies/pics/sketches of what makes/breaks!!
Don't confuse me with a wiring diagram!!!!! ;D

Cheers, :)

Hi to all you Outposters.  8)

I still pop in and out to see what you are all up to. ;D

I have posted this on a couple of other forums and intended to put it up on here
but time has run away with me.

This is the beast - Made in 1978, by John Diggins, in Birmingham - that's England,
not Alabama - just in case you were wondering!!

The original owner was Richard "Fez" Ferriday and the band was "Cryer"

Ahhhh, Seventies Rock and all it's excesses!!!!!!!!!!!!! Don't you just love it???

It is a heartwarming tale of a bass created, gigged hard and then given up.
Since then, it has travelled around the country and was in Scotland when I acquired it.
I have had it for about three years and have even put up pics on here before but
the main reason for the blog entry and the post on here is to tell you the story of
how it came full circle.
When Richard opened the case and saw it again, it was like time stood still for
a few moments, it was me who took it out of the case and carried out the
"Handing over Ceremony" - his face lit up, he went straight to the "Eight" and
the smile got wider.  ;D

I am going to see him on Friday, at the gig and check out that I have got this right.
When we met, he talked about the reunion gigs and his Thunderbird, which if
I heard him correctly, used to belong to Gezzer Butler.
Richard had a Ric that Geezer fancied and Richard was quite take with Geezer's
Thunderbird, so a swap was done. Magic, eh??
I will check and let you know.

The story so far - more details and more pics:
http://flatericbassandguitar.blogspot.com/2011/11/jaydee-gemini-twin-neck-bass.html

I hope you enjoy it.

All the best.

Cheers. :)
