Played my longhorn bass for the first time in maybe more than a year (maybe a couple years) last night. What a light responsive bass!...
I need to start gigging it again...maybe learn to do a quick drop "D" tuning for some of the lower stuff that forces me to use a low "B" string currently.
It just rips with round wounds on it...

I've had longhorn bass lust for a long time... which one do you have?
An acquaintance here used to gig a copperburst JJ, and he sounded fantastic on that thing. Looked mighty fine too. Wish I had pursued one before prices shot up.
I still sometimes think about trying one of the import Dano models.
-
It's just an import bass from 2003/2004...
Has a truss rod, stable neck and adjustable bridge...all the comforts of home.

hondo of all people made a copper longhorn back in the eighties i think. it had a p bass pick up and sounded pretty good.

this one is red but you get the picture.

I love my Longhorns. I put flats on the Dano and it changed it entirely.

Not red, "mahogany" was one of the three finishes offered by Hondo. Bought my Hondo copperburst brand new in the early 80s. Was my first of many Longhorn basses, Jerry Jones and Dano. I still have it but when I got my lefty Dano last year I sold all the others.

Hondo also made a solidbody in the Longhorn shape in the early 80s. The "mohogany" one on Reverb looks like it might be one of those.
-
The Hondos were only solidbody, as is mine.
Full-scale, two octave neck, brass nut, Dimarzio P-Bass pickup, passive bass boost switch. Case had form-fitted interior.
They were nice for the price.
-
Thanks for the clarification. The couple I've seen were solid, I shouldn't have assumed they also made hollowbodies.

Blast, I though it s about Walt Longmire...

And here's a Hondo Longhorn being played (it was actually used in the recording too, Glover loved it for a while, but the quality of that one specimen could never be replicated by Hondo though they sent him a couple and he even endorsed them on the cover of "Straight between the Eyes"):
