The package just came in.
This is by far the most filthy item I have ever bought. Looks and smells as if it was buried in a cat litter box for thirty years.. :puke:.

You'll have to treat them chemically to get the cat piss off them, and as it's highly acidic, you'll definitely want to check the winds for oxidization. Water-diluted sulfuric acid applied and scrubbed with a toothbrush and quickly removed should do the trick AND clean the wire and plastic.

Thanx for the tip.
I'm not too worried about the windings. The entire pickup is cast in epoxy.
It just smells awful...

Yeah the epoxy coating on those things is bulletproof.  And cat piss is alkaline not acidic (it comes out acidic and relatively odourless, but as the uric acid crystallizes and breaks down into ammonia, which takes just a few hours, it takes on that familiar reek).  Clean it with a vinegar-dampenned cloth (worked on my mattress when the cat did it there).

Oh and the pickup doesn't smell of cat piss. It smells of cat shit.
Which I consider to be even worse... :o

Agree on the vinegar, that usually works for foul odors.
Music was better when ugly people were allowed to make it.

If the coils were exposed, the damage would be done by oxidation from the uric acid. The smell is secondary in terms of damage. The acid solution (vinegar/sulfuric acid) re-oxidizes the urine and chemically separates it from anything metallic, but if you don't remove it quickly, it causes even more damage. The fecal odor should go away with just soap and water.

I just have to say that I have learned so much here at the LBO that is not bass related - the list is endless and just continues to grow.  Cat wiz remediation is just the latest.  Now if we could just come up with the formulation to turn lead into gold....... ;D

He's got the rest up for sale too. I hate to see people parting out perfectly good instruments.
This is the second one I see in a few weeks.  >:(

It's a shame to see a 40+ year old guitar get dismantled for profit. Too many sellers are doing it lately.
