Nikki Sixx' customized Birds
« on: August 05, 2009, 09:04:02 AM »
Don't know if this could be of anyone interest, but I just saw this on the Epiphone blogsite.

http://epiphoneblog.wordpress.com/

As for me, I'm still undecided rather I like or not those birds.

They have something going for them, beaten up as they are. Outlaw basses.

But - and this is a serious gripe - there is not one Epi TBird among them:-\ If you attach your name to the darn thing, then you should have at least one standing on stage even if you are not playing it. You kind of owe that to the kids who buy it because your name is on it. End of rant.

I would rather him not use the Epi if he's only going to smash it like he did to those 90's NR T-birds. I don't mind how he paints his other Gibson Birds. At least they look unique, for better or worse. Like John said, Kenny now has a kindred spirit!   ;D

Thanks Scott,

Just my .02, but aside from the 'burst. Thunderbirds just seem to look best in a single color and some chrome appointments + a pickguard. To my eye the shape doesn't seem to lend itself to multi-color paint jobs...........But then again somebody will likely post something up that'll change my mind  ;)

I really like a couple of those. Back when he only had one Thunderbird he used to tape it up with black and/or red electrical tape with various patterns from gig to gig. The only one I could find without looking too hard doesn't show much (tape on the body edges), but you get the idea... I'd seen them before, but it was this bird that made me a lifelong Thunderbird fan.

Hmm... kindred spirit...? am I an "Outlaw" to quote Uwe...?  ;)

Nikki Sixx... Similar age/same school year/continents apart... distinctly differing hairstyles apart, though...

Like George and Uwe, I quite like some of them, too...

Mark's far too much a Lady to desire something that crude, or anything like my T'bird...

I fully agree with Uwe's "rant" - the "honest man" (which Uwe must also be, working within legal circles  :o ) within me detests those that would endorse something for monetary reasons and not use it...

My original "mods" with mine were mostly aimed at ensuring the "worthless retail value" making them "undesireable" to anyone but me, as I so rarely ever parted with an instrument and not likely to having access to a larger "stable"... I like the idea of "unique", so the idea of owning someone elses idea is not for me, and that's the way I am... I could "replace" a lost RD, but my Peter Cook Custom...?

Hmm... still gotta finish sorting that shed before the PC gets laid on the bench...
The random mind of a Silver Surfer...
If research was easy, it wouldn't need doing...
Staring at that event horizon is a dirty job, but someone has to do it; something's going to come back out of it one day...

The Nikki Sixx Epi is not that inferior a bass that it would be a real plight for him to play one. It sounds ferocious and rough - just as Herr Sixx should like it and Epi even gave it that sleek neck as desired by Herr Sixx.
