Bill's Shop: Projects, Mods & Repairs / Help with Mosrite Bass project.
« on: September 01, 2016, 09:18:12 PM »
Hey, guys. I friend of mine wants me to build him a Mosrite Bass (the Ventures Model), so I'm in the process of trying to find some basic info on the subject.

Anyone here has got one and is willing to take some measurements? Or know somewhere on the webs where I can find some specs?
Any info would be appreciated.

I did a little search but other than some nice pics, I couldn't really find any measurements or specs. I know it's a short scale, but what's the actual scale lenght? Fretboard width? String spacing? Body Depth?

Anyway, any help would be appreciated. And I'll gladly post here about the progress. Thanks, guys!

Oh, did I mention it's going to be a lefty?...

Considering the recent Wilshire historycal collection reissue, maybe we can hope...

We Recently Acquired This Beautiful Rivoli

One of the most sought after vintage Epiphone basses is the 60s era Rivoli. We recently acquired this beautiful 1967 model and our R&D department is currently reviewing every detail of this iconic Epiphone piece for a possible re-issue. If it happens, I know a lot of bass players will be very happy!

This is a KB Mini-Beelze with built in amp. From a japanese company called Killer. I think this is a discontinued model.

Ok, guys. I finally had time to take pictures of my semi-hollow prototype, so as I promised in another thread a couple of weeks ago, I'm posting some pictures and some details here.

The body shape and size is taken from the Epiphone Kat series, so you could say is a long lost cousin to the RumbleKat, I guess. I'm calling it the PhattKat.
All local Brazilians woods, and pretty much all salvage woods as I approached this as a prototype so I try to use left overs from other projects.

Pickups are single-coils from a local manufacturer, and RW/RP between each other so they "buck the hum" when on the same level.

I started this about three years ago, building between projects whenever I had the time and it's been one year since I had it painted and finished but I couldn't find the time to assemble it. Found the time about a month ago since things was slow at the shop so I could finally put it all together.
It went through a lot of changes during the building time as I was trying different approaches to the design (which I think is the idea of building a prototype) and now that it's done and I play tested a good deal of it, I think it's a solid design.

Hope you guys enjoy it. Comments, questions, critics are welcome, after all, that's what I signed up for!
Anyway, here's the first shot:

It looks really nice. And it's nice to see that Epiphone is trying out new concepts.

Don't know if this could be of anyone interest, but I just saw this on the Epiphone blogsite.

As for me, I'm still undecided rather I like or not those birds.
