RIP Dusty Hill
« on: July 28, 2021, 11:34:22 AM »
From the ZZ Top Facebook page:
"We are saddened by the news today that our Compadre, Dusty Hill, has passed away in his sleep at home in Houston, TX.  We, along with legions of ZZ Top fans around the world, will miss your steadfast presence, your good nature and enduring commitment to providing that monumental bottom to the ‘Top'. We will forever be connected to that "Blues Shuffle in C.”
You will be missed greatly, amigo.
Frank & Billy"

That's a shocker.

Apparently he was just out with a hip injury, I wonder if that had anything to do with it.

RIP

He was diagnosed with Hep C in 2000. Maybe it just caught up with him.

I always loved those guys , but never owned any ZZTop music . He was always a great groove player , the simple art .
I loved their rock star phase , they managed to pretty much remain themselves despite the fame .

When the Top took a break he got a regular job at the Dallas airport because he wanted to remain grounded .

I have a number of ZZ Top CDs.  Always likes their blues-rock style, and I enjoy playing their music.

I remember seeing them on German television for the first time in 1980.
Their gig at Rockpalast made them famous in Europe.

Let's not forget the Minimalist Bass Player's Oath, as posted on TBL way back when:

"I promise to play the root, the whole root, and nothing but the root, so help me Dusty Hill."
