As a trial-out for me, Peter Cook ground down all the frets on my RD rather than removing and filling the slots, so I could experiment with the beast as a fretless... kept it that way for some years... PC was long-gone when I had a place called Andy's in central London do the filling work with wood... been that way ever since... sort of...
