I wouldn't buy from them even if their prices were reasonable.

Care to elaborate, Dave?  I know a couple people who have bought from them.  Expensive, yes, but nobody had anything else to say about the place.  Mostly good comments on the staff.

Everything on that page is super cool - obviously the "Blue Deuce" is king, but that modded red '76 with the weeds on the fingerboard and extra controls is also very interesting.

Stories over the years about people who have bought "all original" Fenders which have turned out to be assembled from original parts and "original" finishes which turned out to be refins. Not saying it was done deliberately or that parts were assembled by them. But sometimes there's just too much smoke to ignore.

What Dave has said above, but a reputable, vintage guy who actually worked for them to find them basses & guitars, stopped doing business with them because of issues with the way they do business.

And all of what you just said is why I have no interest in any vintage Fender gear.  I would have to doubt almost anything that wasn't being sold by an original owner.  One of the guys on FDP has a '66 Precision that he bought in '68.  It's nearly mint, and he hasn't changed strings since '69.  Outside of that one instrument, it's hard to believe anyone anymore.  Gibsons seem to be a little harder to manufacture, but I'd be hard pressed to believe an original finish that isn't checked or marred somehow.

A very good friend of mine who is a serious collector, and a non-BS kind of person says stay away from CME, and that's good enough for me. I'm just sayin....

Nice place to drool though!

They have a huge selection of Older Basses on here (Vox, Fender, Guild), irregardless of their business dealings.

How dare you make me lust like this! Have you no decency?!?!  ;D
