Sold for almost $5K. One of you guys?

5k is just silly. I am 99.9% sure that is a refin you can see the cherry through the nicks on the headstock and the wear ion the back of the neck.

100% sure here. Obvious refin. Look at the side dots! An original finish doesn't have the sides of the fretboard painted.

Indeed. That is unusual to put it mildly.

And that fin is supposed to be 50 years old. Even kept in a closet all that time, I'd expect more discolorations white fins are prone to.

Just because one of us paid $1280.00 for a 20/20 doesn't mean we'd jump on this at that price!!

I originally thought that same thing about the painted edge of the fingerboards, but I'm starting to think otherwise... and I've even collected some photographic samples of this strange phenomena for your perusal!

Check it out- Exhibit a)  this (supposedly original) pelham blue EB-3 was done the same way:

Exhibit b) a Kerry green Firebird with its fingerboard binding panited(!)  (gotta squint for it!)

Exhibit c) my all time favorite EB-3, also painted in the same manner:

Exhibit d) do you think a cherry custom finish would be an exception?  Well, heck no!

I still contend that its a strange move - to finish the side of the 'boards like that - but I theorize that these might all be factory finishes.  I was OCD'ing over this when I made my shameless BacH NR clone, but could not bring myself to paint it that way knowing that it would wear and look crappy over time.

I'm no expert, though, just obsessive.  What do ya'll think?

My '65 TBird IV has been refinned polaris white the same way, Baz has the name of the guy who did it for him.  Seems it would have been easier NOT to paint the board and redo the side dots but that's what he did.

OTH the white '77 TBird I bought new had an unpainted board and white side dots.

P. T. Barnum is spanking it right now.

It isn't just the paint on the fretboard - the edges are all over the place, and they don't look like wear. This looks like a scam auction to me, and I bet we see it listed again.

Lay's Did the correct refin on the white one as well as the Pelham Blue '65 II I own. Sunbursts didn't have the sides of the fingerboard painted but the custom colors did. That's why, whenever I see a refin or a supposed original and the sides are not painted, I question it's authenticity. Dan Shinn at Lay's does it that way because Gibson did it that way and they try to be as authentic as possible. Who knows about that Ebo. I would need to see better pics before I jumped to a concise conclusion. Just my opinion. Hey...I just joined  Kevin Lee's band  last night. 11 songs and 1 cover-I nailed them completely except for a teeny mistake!!

Maybe that white EB0 is a factory refin?
Fender did that too. They just painted some of their sunburst strats white (or whatever solid color). I hear those are quite popular.
