Kinda scary how well some of those songs fit. More than anything I think it shows how classical music is embedded in our existence whether we know it or not.

Considering that the standard for musical notation is only a few hundred years old, we really don't have much solid evidence of what music sounded like before the current standards were in place.
When ancient musical instruments and written music are discovered and the "experts" get together to restore instruments and translate music notation, a lot is left to the imagination.
When some ancient stringed instrument is discovered, there is no way to tell what notes the strings represented or any clues as to tuning at all. ???
Same goes for written music.......no real clue. :o

They have found that in just about every form of musical notation , even stuff they have found in Egyptian tombs , has a repetitive three chord or note thing going on. There is no way to tell what those three notes/ chords were , but there seems to be a natural "three thing" going on. So for all we know, it could have been some freakish weird ass sounds that everybody was diggin' thousands of years ago or it could have been the standard three cord music we are still diggin' today.
For all we know, they coulda been rockin' to the likes Johnny B Goode thousands of years ago  8)

He was a bad cellist then, very unimaginative.  :-\

Rather than hobbling along with the root notes  :bored:

D, A, B, F#, G, D, G, A

he could have played a nice descending cello line to it  :) :

D, C#, B, A, G, F#, G, E.

Or one moving up (if his teacher had forgiven him that one D 7*  :o that is!):

D, E, F#, A, B, C*, D, E.

Didn't anybody tell him about switching between root, fifths and thirds either  ??? :

F#, E, D, C#, B, A, G, E.

Finally, in Heavy Metal fashion  8) he could have hammered the D just all the way through except for a relieving C#  or E at the end  :-*.

I certainly wouldn't haven been bored. But certainly kicked out of the school orchestra!!!  ;D

PS: Did he mention 38 Special's Caught up in you in his list?
