He was a bad cellist then, very unimaginative.
Rather than hobbling along with the root notes
D, A, B, F#, G, D, G, A
he could have played a nice descending cello line to it
:
D, C#, B, A, G, F#, G, E.
Or one moving up (if his teacher had forgiven him that one D 7*
that is!):
D, E, F#, A, B, C*, D, E.
Didn't anybody tell him about switching between root, fifths and thirds either
:
F#, E, D, C#, B, A, G, E.
Finally, in Heavy Metal fashion
he could have hammered the D just all the way through except for a relieving C# or E at the end
.

certainly wouldn't haven been bored. But
certainly kicked out of the school orchestra!!!
