Title: Surname tracker
Post by: OldManC on September 10, 2008, 08:34:51 PM
http://www.publicprofiler.org/worldnames/Main.aspx

I found a link to this website and thought I'd pass it on. If you type in your last name, you get statistics on where the name is distributed throughout the world, as well as other information. Nothing earth shattering, but kind of cool, nonetheless.

Cool!!  8) We can trace our surname to one guy, supposedly a Hessian mercinary, in Linclon county North Carolina from the 1790 census.  Sure enough the highest population is in NC and Lincoln county to boot!

We're almost an endangered species - 2.19 fpm in the UK and 0.1 in the US and I do actually know where they all are. This actually doesn't do a bad job, but missed a few in N America. Should be able to waste the entire afternoon going through the rest of the family tree.
