Nice work!

Sorry to hear about Bill M...his Blues Jr. mods are ubiquitous.

Thanks- that was a fun little project, and I've been enjoying it.

Joe, in case you didn't already know, Bill Machrone passed away the other day.

Gibson Basses / Re: new Epiphone Korina Explorer Bass
« on: November 05, 2016, 11:35:02 AM »
Unfortunately, seeing that '58 Explorer site that popped up recently got me into liking explorers more and more.
I always liked the shape, but prefer short scale.

Being short of projects, I got me this epi korina explorer and pulled the neck out. So next for this one is getting an epi EB0 neck.
The pickup cover is just for looks, I'm going black plastic like the original.

Love it! Short scale will be cool. Looking forward to seeing the progress. 8)

The Epis seem to get that traditional explorer body shape right. Both of the Gibson basses just never looked quite right to me. The 80s ones have that exaggerated angle of the upper horn, and the lower bouts are a lot more angular on both the 80s and recent models. Cool in their own right I suppose, but the Tbird and that original explorer shape is (to me) timeless.

I found my little piece of explorer heaven in this bass (seen w/some pointy siblings)...

For bridge studs that have a tendency to lift out of the body (as on some of the 3-points) I usually just pull them out all the way, drip some CA/superglue down the edges of the holes, let it dry, and then press the studs back in snug.

Of course the fact that the seller's Ebay moniker is "ratfart" makes it even more special  :)

That is something, innit?  Wonder if they'd come down to 38.5K...  :o

The bright-white binding edge kinda does make it look photoshopped, but I can see some yellowing along the edge.

Took a few attempts googling G-- letter combinations before I could remember myself  ;D

I recall seeing ads like this one in magazines back in the day...

Wow - that one's a looker!  Cool bass  8)

Electronics on that do look like a EB-2 type of an affair.

Kinda looks like GRD (Guitar Research and Design), who built stuff in the late 70s-early-80s.

Don't recall ever seeing a bass before, but the body is vaguely similar to their guitar designs.

It took forever to build, but sounds fantastic!

That's slick!  8)  The bridge pickup in my EB-3 is like "treble garnish" to the mudbucker... but on its own, pretty useless.
