Title: New project taking shape
Post by: gweimer on February 25, 2009, 06:39:50 PM
Well, my next project bass is starting to shape up.  I've been mulling over what I want done with it, and I seem to have most of the important parts gathered up:

Les Paul mahogany body
NOS Gibson neck (which will need a fretboard, probably ebony, and is also set neck)
Schaller 460 bridge
Dark Star pickup (for the neck position)

I've decided to do one of my back burner projects on this one - I'm going to drop a Ric bridge pickup in this.  I figure I'll finish it in cream/white,  possibly with some binding.  If my powder coating hobby comes to fruition (signed up for support, and have a few parts coming), I may try to coat the hardware in a dark purple.  Otherwise, it's chrome all the way.  I'm still looking at tuners.  I may not want to spend the dough on Hipshot, so will look around for a decent set.  Bone nut.

I figure this will be something that I will have my luthier put together for me by Christmas.

Long or short scale?

Probably short scale.  I wonder if I should do a fretless to keep the cost down a little.

Fretless? Say it ain't so!  ;)

I wouldn't think there would be much difference in cost.
