Something new from Herr Bonnet ...
« on: February 25, 2016, 06:14:44 AM »
... a new track from the forthcoming album release (isn't it terrible how I still say "album"), very Alcatrazzy, Malmsteeny guitar solo and all, with those typical operatic vocal lines of his which you either love or find OTT ...

... and a new bassist who only coincidentally caught my eye ...

For the avoidance of doubt: That is not Mark, you can tell by the gear played (she is actually a lefty, but plays righty). Mark, of course, plays Thunderbirds over Gallien Kruegers. Still, the general likeness and similar sartorial splendor are unsettling.

Interesting background story on how she - the suitably named Ms Beth-Ami Heavenstone - joined the band: Initially not really acquainted with Bonnet's pedigree, she had second thoughts about touring internationally "because I'm a single mom with an autistic child". That's when Bonnet mentioned that he has an autistic child as well and that caught her interest.

Speculations are rife that since then the two have discovered further commonalities as well, but I'm not voicing an opinion on that. We are not tabloid here, but dedicated to compelling scientific evidence. The new track does contain the line "what a beautiful creature we are ..." though.  :)

I always wonder about that - shouldn't that give you more fretting hand strength and dexterity? When you think about it, especially as a pick player, using your "main hand" just for hitting the strings is kind of a waste.

in my case my fretting hand has always given me more problems than my plucking hand. having ADD does not help either concentration wise.  i have tried playing as a "correct" lefty but no way. :P

 ;D I actually LOL'd at that statement.

"I think it's only proper that I play until the last note of a set, then fall over and die. The band won't have to play an encore and they'll still get paid for the gig" (Dr. John)

Are you saying you play lefty?

Not really. The term "album" does not define the medium, simply that it is a collection of recordings.
He's looking kinds wrinkly these days, no?
Speaking of beating a dead horse, I'm going to see JLT tomorrow night in one of the local NJ venues. Hopefully he will keep his political jabbering and love of Vladimir Putin out of the set. Word has it that guitar duties for these local shows are being handled by Steve Brown of Trixter. :roll eyes:

Me for two.  I played violin first, and lefty violins and violinists don't really exist. The left hand has always been the notes hand, for me.

No, political views excepted, I'm righty-righty. But I've played with the idea of buying a lefthand bass and learning it just to see what it is like (not an orignal thought, righty Frank Marino of Mahogany Rush already did it in the 70ies to be closer to his idol Jimi Hendrix). I'd probably sound like two completely different bass players then.

There are a few of us who are right handed but play lefty. Greta Brinkman is another.

Well, tell us how it went! I've seen JOLT with Rainbow twice (a weaker frontman than either Dio or Bonnet, too much prancing), once with DP (that was a very good gig at Hammersmith, very musical) and once with the Hughes-Turner vanity package. Not once did he sing anything but well. It's EVERYTHING ELSE HE DOES that is sometimes difficult to stomach, but, frankly, his voice has held up better than either Gillan's or Coverdale's and is not as much an acquired, divisive taste as Hughes'.

These days, where bald singers/frontmen are nothing rare with the hard rock or heavy metal crowd, I just wish he would give up that silly "Dynasty"-style wig!
