I guess I'm not the aimed-for audience, but I loke The Beatles. It will acquaint a whole new generation with The Beatles legacy, and with songs likes that "you know you can't be wro-o-o-o-ng".

Since I do that for a living, the idea of coming home and playing Beatles tunes doesn't do much for me.

The thing I'm looking forward to is all the weird mixes and stuff that will end up all over the net. I'm amazed that Apple Corps is letting this out just because it seems that once it's out of the bag they'll never get it back in.

(I could be wrong here because I don't have Rockband, but isn't that where people are getting all these isolated tracks that are being used for stuff like the videos on youtube and elsewhere?)

Video games have never interested me so I don't even know what's the object of the "game" -- can you insert your own music and play with a virtual band?  Whatever, watching virtual versions of musicians seems really odd to me.

I don't play video games and while we have Guitar Hero in the house I am not the least bit into it. I just thought they did a great job with the graphics, The instrument/equipment detail is really cool.

like many things it's instant gratification, although fake, for people too lazy to learn an instrument and be in a real band.
reminds me of things like  air guitar contests. wtf  :P now everyone can be an instant rock star.  ???
btw if you can't tell i hate this shite. ;)

My daughter & her friends play it, heck every teenager plays it. The girls love to play along and sing with their favorite songs.

I still don't have an answer: if it's a game, what's the object of the game?

To play along faultlessly. Certain parts of the toy guitar light up during certain parts of the song and if you are quick enough to push the buttons you'll be in tune and make the appropriate noise. It's not guitar playing, but I wouldn't call it wholly unmusical so it has more to do with reaction time and coordination. Most real string players tend to be totally crap at it initially. I'm not damning it, but I never felt inclined to try either. You can tell my age, since pacman I really can't see a higher entertainment value of computer games and I hated pacman! Too much fidgety coordination for me, I have a hard enough time playing bass.

Okay, I understand now. Don't see the appeal, I'd rather play a real instrument. I'm obviously not their target market.

I am too old for the target.  Although if they included a "Sweet Apple Trax / Let It Be" game where they would bicker and get angry unless they played Shake Rattle And Roll or Be Bop A Lula over 40 hours, then I would get it.
Model One and Schallers?  Ish.

My teenage daughter & her friends get together and love to play & sing along to their favorite songs, getting cheered by the fans.

I dont play it, but I saw an episode of Gene Simmons where he challenged his son & his friend to a Rock Band duel. Gene brought along the members of Kiss or who was working with him at the time. Gene & band failed.

It does teach rhythm and coordination though.

I suck at it.
