How about a Rok Sak?  They have an actual TB model.

I'm gonna check with my local shop first to see what they have.  I'd love to try one before buying.

Wow! Thats looks sweet.
Seeing this makes me yearn for that BaCHbird...

Hey and what do those controls do?

cheers, Rob

The front two are vol and the back 2 are tone.  The 3-way is a simple LP-style that switches between either pup or turns them both on at the center position.  Nothing too fancy.  I'm pretty much a both-pups full on kinda guy, but once in awhile it's nice to flip between them.

Hey, how about a picture? I have a white TB that I've been thinking about changing over too, although the tuxedo look is a nice change from my other chromed birds.

I bought the pickguard for my 2003 TB projetct off eBay.  I think I paid about $35 or so.  A good deal for a Gibson product!  WD makes nice guards but no logos.

Stunning!
Congrats.

But is there already some damage in the finish at the tailstop?

cheers, Rob

Yes, the paint chipped when I attached the tailpiece.  If you look close you'll see other chips as well.  This paint job is very brittle for some reason and I was pissed when it did this.  After thinking about it, I realized what the heck, the bass is 40 years od and the chips make it look its age anyway!  So, I'm leaving the chips for now.  They add character to what was a perfect paint job!  ;D

Would you belive I had a factory CAR one ? I paid like for it. Wish I still had it. As always Bill thats a beauty.

A factory CAR?  That must have looked really cool.  I've thought about selling mine, but on to buy a vintage Gibson!!!  If the right TB comes along, you never know...........

Ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo I can't wait to try this one !

It'll be ready soon!!!  It's not going to be ready today as planned.  I have to replace some wood in the pup routs before the adjustment screws will fit properly.  Almost there.............

Thanks guys, it took me 9 months to do with work, family and other interruptions.  Yes, this is ReRanch vintage cream nitro.  I'm lazy when it comes to finishing, I did this with 2 can of their spray nitro.  I just can't get all excited about using my compressor and getting a gun.

I too like the one pup clean look.  This style is a classis for sure.

Well, I probably won't have a chance to visit here much, but I do have one Fender that I restored a year or so ago.............

It's a neat old bass that was abused and had a p-bass pup installed be a previous butcher.  It's back to normal now and sounds pretty darn good.

Speaking of "another," after I finish my 98 LP and 2003 TB restorations, I'll probably do a JE Fender Bird?  I just can't help myself!  I am so hooked on TBs!

I tell ya that bass is just stunning!

Why can't Gibson just re-issue one?

It is kind of fun making/restoring one .

I find it far more rewarding then buying something complete.

I agree!  The GOW idea was OK, but just changing wood or colors on existing models wasn't exactly rocket science nor was it a revolutionary idea (ala F*nd*r!).  It is rewarding to create something, especially a model that is unique and not just a knock-off.  The only problem is wanting to do another..then another....then another........it's just another form of GAS!  :P

I really like the color on this, but the butterscotch maple one is just so much cooler to me.

The vintage cream from ReRanch is a bit too yellow IMHO, but it's the best there is out there for a faded white look.  I'd prefer it toned down a bit, but it still looks pretty good on a true vintage bass.  I don't have the patience or skill yet to mix my own paint.  Maybe someday I'll go down that road, but I really prefer woodworking to painting anyway!

The see-through butterscotch is a cool color for sure!  Love the way it shows off the grain.  One day I'll use the regular blonde on a bass, I love that whiter wook as well.

While restoring the 60s NR, I got the bright idea to start an all-maple clone (don't ask me why, I'm still wondering what I was thinking!!!).  Anyway, I'll be finishing that one up this weekend.  I'm really pleased with how it turned out.

Since Tony asked and maybe one or two of you haven't seen it, here's the finished NR.  Scott helped with the pickguard and we're making a correct tailpiece for it, so it will look even better in a few weeks!  This is the bass that I had to create an entirely new headstock for.  The previous owner misplaced the original!   :D
