Thought I'd start a thread to see who my bros are! On stage, off stage, whatever. What does a German lawyer look like? It's time we put the faces to the text we all enjoy here! Let 'er rip guys! NO photoshop touchups allowed!!! Gray hairs welcomed! Let's see it!
Here's a little one from last Summer. The kid's a chip off the ol' block...
I have to tell you he is happy with his mint 4003 Ric which he bought used for $850 about 6 years ago, now worth about $1200- $1600 .
He still loves his bass as well
I'm 29, too old to rawk'n'rawl, too young to die I guess.

Looking at the many pics of mild-mannered middle-aged men, I begin to wonder whether we don't need some new blood? Perhaps start a Bass Outpost Boy Scouts group? Mark would look splendid with his pig-tails in a boy scout uniform and engender parental trust.
Uwe
29 to old to R&R oh come on, I'm almost 50 and still pull on the leather pants.
Here's my Power Pop band, the Treeshakers.
Left-handism is overtaking us!!! They must have all been hiding under some stone before ...

"Hello. My name is John, and I am left-handed."
Lefty, but you play righty or just a joke?
Nice basses. I'm hoping to have my Scroll bass by the end of the month.

I am left handed. When I started playing bass, I started lefty. When went to buy a bass I found lefty basses hard to find and expensive, so I switched to righty.
When I was a teen I had a set of lefty golf clubs, after years of not golfing I got invited to a golf outing. Had to rent clubs, they were righty of course. I didn't embarass myself too badly that day.

See!
I'm not the only one that goes both ways............... ;)
@godofthunder - the pick up in the musicmaster bass isn't a EB-0 pickup but an telecaster bass pick-up I removed it because I didn't like the sound of it. It now has an GFS lipstick humbuckers, variotone, coil split, fase in out, serial/parallel, and a bypass switch for the variotone.

And I don't like to be cured off my leftyness, leave me that way.
So....that's what i did!!!
"I would LOVE to try a Rickenbacker 8 string ...".
Don't. We shouldn't have harsh reality interfere with our romantic afflictions. I've been there.

Do you tend to write longish, stream of consciousness posts? Or short ones that are still difficult to understand? Some of your countrymen do, but I'm not giving away names, that I kennot do. :-X :-X :-X
It's a pleasure to have someone here who - unlike most of us, see the pictorial evidence in the above post -has not served in the American Civil War and/or breathes like Darth Vader.
No pic of the Vic, Matt, how come? G-3 is a good choice, a very snappy member of the family with quite some versatility. And what didn't you like about the original Epi pups in your Epi LP?
Uwe
Incidentally, still wearing those Terrycloth tops today, huh?

A Gibson Custom Shop Acoustic Bass in Super 400 shape, fretless, medium scale and with a passive piezo. Built in 1999 by then Gibson master luthier Phil Jones. Spruce top, EXTREMELY resonant, no sustain block, feedbacks immediately at higher volumes (not good for unplugged sessions with drummers), but sounds like a dream in the studio. A one off model possibly for a NAMM show. A magnetic pup model in L5 shape was also built around that time, but I've never seen pics of it (Phil has confirmed to me though that he built it, but has no clue of the whereabouts).
Beautiful bass! As I saw the faces of the folks in your band, I decided this could be worth checking up. Is that you guys on U-tube?
Must admit I like the style! Yes, sir! Do you do Perfidia?
Man, I just couldn't help myself when I heard Pipeline with you guys. Driven by nothing but my spine, I strechted my right arm and grabbed the nearest bass, an Epiphone Embassy, and fell into the bass line in the mighty E-minor. Duh-duh-duh, duh-duh-duh... Wowie! And Zowie! I would love to hang in a bar where you guys are playing! I would fill in with vocals for Perfidia if necessary!
999 - Love that aluminum upright, that's just simply stunning.

So I browsed the pics again, and Uwe's one-off Super 400 is still the best looking bass in the universe.

I've been lucky to have had two of them, the first one I believe only cost me $470.00. They've gone up a tad in the last twenty years...............
Refresh my memory, did you trade the first one in at Willie's? If so, I played that one too.
Who wants to play like Jaco or Flea? Not I.
Why doesn't this go any higher?

BTW you're almost as gray as I am ;D
I'm a lot greyer now, but the crew-cut kind of hides it.
Is MarkBass your amp of choice too?
"Choice" is overstating things, I'm not hung up over what amp I play as long as it works and is loud enough. People tell me that I sound the same over anything.
[snip]
These days I tend to take the amp/cab with the best weight to loudness ratio with me to an audition or gig (or ask the opening act if I can use their bassist's rig)!
"Choice" is overstating things, I'm not hung up over what amp I play as long as it works and is loud enough. People tell me that I sound the same over anything. The MarkBass stuff is more variable than most, not that I really change sounds during a set once I've found one I like. :-[
Amps and cabs with me never transcend the "tool" status. I play Ampeg SVT, Orange Little Terror, Roland Modeling combos, MarkBass and an Ashdown JAE master-/pre-amp, none of them bugs me enough that I wouldn't take it on stage, but I'd be hard-pressed to name a favorite. This sounds terribly uncool, but it might even be the Roland Modeling combos for sheer variety with a single turn of a knob. :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[
These days I tend to take the amp/cab with the best weight to loudness ratio with me to an audition or gig (or ask the opening act if I can use their bassist's rig)!
Functionality and headroom are the two key ingredients for me. I tell opening acts they can use my rig, but that I wouldn't mind playing over theirs either, and if they prefer playing over their stuff I just ask "no drop-outs?" and "is it loud enough"? I then tend to have the MarkBass with me in case all fails, but if the other guy's rig is ok, the MarkBass stay comfortably in the car.
Really, all that "I need (i) this amp over (ii) those speakers with (iii) my effects board or it just ain't me" is for whining guitarists. Always embarrasses me if I witness that and if a guitarist wants to lose my respect really quick all he needs to do is say "I can't play over this thing". Pansies.
Good pic! Love the lighting and the creepy eyes.

Neepheid is that a Money bass? I want one!
I didn't know that there were Doublecuts that had the walnut "tone plate" too. They started out just Maho plus maple top. Then again, once Gibson had production for the Money running, why differentiate for the Doublecut? Actually the only series produced Gibson Bass with three woods, come to think of it.
We've discussed this before... http://bassoutpost.com/index.php?topic=8480.msg139619
It's hard to tell what's a Money bass and what isn't, given the amount of variance in hardware colour and knobs across all models, but I'm going with if it ain't got a $ on the TRC, and it isn't Manhattan Midnight or Natural, then it isn't a Money bass.
My DC with tone plate (yes I did end up buying the one I was talking about :) ):

Every year we play an event called 500 Songs For Kids, a great organization and we love being asked to participate. 500 different bands over multiple weekends perform one song each. Songs are selected for each band a month before the show and this year we were assigned Buddy Holly by Weezer and decided to dress the part. Aside from being stuck playing a rented jazz bass it was a pretty good night! ;D

That's actually a surprisingly non-disco bassline. Coulda been a post-punk song.
When punk and disco had a baby, they called it new wave dance pop.
I didn't hear the term New Wave until well after I heard of punk in the summer of '77. I was reading Creem, Hit Parader, and eventually Circus. Maybe they weren't hip to the terminology?
as I knew it and used it back then New Wave was definitely after punk,
There was a pic of cool chart of Brit punk band membership from the late 70s in the liner notes of RamoneswMania (for some weird reason). It was by some major Punk historianand the title was something like Diagram of the New Wave.
The term punk came first (in their use), but it pretty quicky became reserved for bands with spiky hair (Ramones were a honorary exemption) and buzzsaw guitar playing. Anything else that wasn't old school (or BOF for boring old farts = 90% of what was visibly and audibly inspired by the early 70ies music scene) became to be lumped in with "New Wave"
Basically the differentiation was: If you didn't wear flares and have long hair, you were New Wave. And a certain way to move about or dance (the way Annie Lennox did in the Tourist vid, neither Linda Ronstadt nor Suzi Quatro would have moved and looked that way).
With all due respect wellREDman, you're even younger than me (and supposedly, well red, as opposed to well read which is something entirely more repectable ;P ... wait, I wonder if that means the same thing over there) and the term was coined before both our births (which in your case was itself "definitely after punk," n'est pas? so you could not have heard it earlier); inarguably the meaning drifted a bit over time.I was a teenager (and punk) in the mid 80's when punk was not quite dead, but definitely on it's back and twitching.
This is where I got introduced to what ultimately became punk, without actually hearing any of it. I went out and bought the first Ramones album because Rock Scene loved them. The first time I played it, I thought it was some kind of cruel joke. Not much has changed.

Love it! Will there be a fight in the band over who gets the original?
The two guitarists (brothers) are the songwriters, and I'm only a relatively recent addition to the lineup (for 5 years compared to their 10 years LOL) so I'm happy for them to decide who gets the original.
I hope you get a good print/photo/scan then. That's a really cool piece.

He looked carefully fabricated to me already back then, a punk the way The Daily Mail or The Sun would envisage one.
Oh man, you guys are gonna have a field day when when my guitarists drops our band's new video (the one I drum in unfortunately, not the one I play bass in).
I saw the first cut and I was like: really, the back hair shot?

That's the urine stain one right?
Our last gig from a couple a weeks ago. I decided it would be fun to bring out the EB3, I love how light that thing is.

Somebody stole all your frets! :vader:
A pic taken by the singers daughter from our support gig in Inverness last Friday...
Alcohol, chicks and the devil's music - y'all burn in hell!
Your eyes say there's mischief afoot! ;)
Since I am relatively new I thought I'd display one of my Gibson moments:

I have no prob with the shirts. Great bunch of basses too, especially the Precision with what looks like some good old fashioned nitro tort if I'm not mistaken. On the other hand, wearing a thunderbird above the belt buckle should be a fineable offense :-\
Nice fiesta red Precision! Perfect pic for Cinco de Mayo.
I see a woman!!! :o
I see a woman!!! :o
Of course, in my clichéed, compartmentlized world, I assumed she was the singer. :-[ :-[ :-[
Firebirds are lovely, but Teles look good on wimmin too.
I thought Lizzy plays Explorers mostly?
Thanks soooooo much for posting this! :-* :-* :-* :-*
I'm a sucker for that song, lyrics, story, melody and all. I know it's Mutt Lange penned drawing board confectionery and that Ann Wilson hates the lyrics and message (I don't have issues with it, this has happened a million times all over the world in the past and now) plus thinks it should have been a Shania Twain song, not a Heart one.
And Lizzy is hot plus I like Halestorm as a band.
Oh, Ann seems to have had a change of - no pun intended - heart about the song!

Finally popped your cherry here Ken ;)And with a pic, no less!
More boids in Brooklyn!
A sad tangent: My wife's parents, both born and raised in Brooklyn during the Depression, both raised by Yiddish-speaking Eastern European immigrant jews, have the most pronounced Brooklyn accents among my acquaintances -- my father-in-law says "idear" for idea, for example -- But even they don't say "boid" for bird, or "toity-toid" for thirty-third. Those regional accents are dying out :(Yup, same heritage and story, but mostly the Bronx. My favorite was my great aunt pronouncing 'beautiful' as 'beauty-ful'. I grew up in Rockland County.
Me, I'm a Long Island (or Lawn Guyland) kid, raised by California transplants; I've been told I sound more California than LI.
But yeah. I like Thundaboids!

Up on the stage at the Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom with the $ bass. Mutoid man was great to watch and it was good to see Corrosion of Conformity with their original singer again. Danzig hogged all the sound check time so we had to make do with a quick line check. Was a great experience.
Mutoid Man recorded their last album at God City Studio in Salem MA. If you've ever been to St. Vitus bar in Brooklyn you may have crossed paths with the bass player who ran the front of the house sound there. Nick Cageao played an Aria explorer bass and they're supposed to be making his own signature model of it coming soon. Marty Friedman, formerly of Megadeth dug them so much he guested a solo on the title track of their new album War Moans. Totally worth checking out.Cool. I haven’t yet made it to St. Vitus. Not sure that studio existed when I was in Salem. I moved back to NY in 2000.
They were a big influence on Metallica. You might recognize "Am I Evil?" , "Helpless" or "Blitzkrieg"Thanks. I’ll look into them. Sad when the bands who influenced bands that play in arenas play small clubs.
Yes King Diamond, I got my diamonds mixed up :oHah, cool. Glad to know I'm not THAT out of touch, then. Holy crap, surprising King Diamond is playing in such a small place, then!
"Yes King Diamond, I got my diamonds mixed up ..."Ouch. :)
But judging from his "voice", King Diamond never had any in the first place. Diamonds I mean.
Eunuch of this, I made my point and had a ball.

King Diamond/Diamond Head  - we haven't had a mix-up as priceless as this since ... ah, I don't really remember ... sometimes things just look way too close to tell apart.

Two random, but very similar-looking aircraft to illustrate my point.

I have to say, it's really a gigantic pain in my delicate ass to get into PB and try to retrieve my stuff, mere words fail in expressing my hatred of that outfit!
Nice! What's your signal path there?
