Title: White Stripes break up
Post by: Chaser001 on February 02, 2011, 12:53:56 PM

I was never a fan anyway, so I have to say that my attitude toward this is one of indifference.  On the other hand, I never really had anything against the White Stripes, either.  I didn't much like their music, but didn't see anything particularly wrong with what they were trying to do.

Sad. I LOVE 'em!! Got all their cds. Except their first one-couldn't stand it so goot rid of it.
The rest are BRILLIANT!!!!!

Jack will Rock On! Not sure about Meg. I'd try her in my band TigerShark but she probly couldn't play good enuf.

I just recently got turned on to The Dead Weather-the band Jack plays drums in:

www.youtube.com/watch?v=MYWdRpM6Tp8

THAT's some KILLER drumming! Meg will NEVER be able to play like that.
The Raconteurs are ok with a "full band sound" (bass an' all) but don't thrill me so much.
Why did the White Stripes thrill us so much? Mostly just vocal, guitar & drums!!! Minimalism.
Shouldn't really have been successful without a good bassplayer, right?
The reason they ROCKED:
Damn good songs!!!!! & tho Meg ain't a great drummer she's cooool (& has big tits!!)

Best wishes to Meg & Jack!!
Jack is also working on this project that Norah Jones is involved in--ROME:

Interesting.

Love this quickie portrait of Jack:

I liked the White Stripes or I should better say I found them entertaining, but the concept obviously had a "best used before"-tag to it.

And all their bassplayers were underrated.

Jack found better outlets for his talent long ago. The only surprise is that he didn't dissolve the partnership before now.

Where's the "like" button when we need it?

I think her drumming is kinda bouncy.

I liked some of the W.S. stuff, but I had to be in the mood to listen to it. I do like Dead Weather (even tho it's unusual) and the Raconteurs. I saw the Stripes live and I can confirm that Meg's playing was quite bouncy  :o

FWIW, I enjoyed watching "It Might Get Loud" (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1229360/).

When that porno was discovered a coupla years back that might star Meg I watched it & then read the comments.

"That is definitely Meg. I've been with her & those are her tits for sure."

"Liar! I've REALLY been with her & those are NOT her tits."

"Whether it's Meg or not, it's doin' it for me."

& TEH WINNER:

"Look you guys--That HAS to be Meg. Look at how she tilts her head to one side & keeps losin' the beat."

Ha haaaa haaaaaaa

You gotta love this Grammy performance:

Best description of them I ever read by a critic was:

"They're like The Carpenters possessed by the spirit of Zeppelin."

Classic.

I wonder how many millions Meg is worth.
I'd love her even if she was poor. She's got FIRE! to warm a Cold, Cold Night:

Karen C. played the drums better and sang better too. She wasn't probably much of a cook though.

And after jokes in ill taste about anorectics, I might as well report my dawning realisation from watching Meg's penchant for hiding her left arm from sight behind her back while playing one-handedly: Could it be that, like many American teenage girls***, she saw and heard Def Leppard in the eighties just a bit too often? Maybe she thinks it ought to be like that and her whole drumming approach is a politically correct (just like me!) hommage to Rick Allen?!

That wasn't fair on Rick, whether with three, two, one or no arm(s), he can play paradiddles around Meg with his toes. And Ian Paice once said - before the accident - that Rick Allen was a very talented drummer, so he must be in my book.

The White Stripes had naive charm, I'll miss them a little bit. The Raconteurs are a logical progression and Dead Weather is to my ears a little mannered in attempting to defy traditional rock listener expectations and sounding off-the-wall. It has its moments though.

***Taylor Swift said Def Leppard was her "favorite rock band" too!

as a casual listener i see nothing terribly wrong with her playing. it certainly fits the kind of music that is being played. no need for a super drummer in this context. my 2 cents

Well said - they wrote and played some pretty unique stuff and it wasn't for everybody.

After I started playing bass, I played them quite a bit - I have fun adding basslines to their music.  My oldest boy loves playing "button" during their shows.
It's not rocket-science music, but it has a place. I thought she was perfect in her role, and he wasn't scared to take some chances - he's a fairly talented guy. One thing you have to give the White Stripes, being a 2-piece band they were pretty well exposed and therefore fairly vulnerable to the inevitable dissection from their uber-elite critics.

Not gonna miss 'em. Digital music should last a lifetime.
