Lots of respect for Carlo's project from here! More than I would tackle by choice.
Good news - the insurance adjuster looked for ways to help rather than to hurt, so we're insured on almost everything. There was some mold in the kitchen wall, and some flooring was rotted. The adjuster said that he would cover everything that he has seen in similar short-term problems (which is the area of coverage), essentially side-stepping the question of whether that damage was actually caused by a longer-term problem. The rotted flooring is definitely long-term, so he's not covering that. But his approach means we have coverage on mold removal, sheetrock repair, carpet replacement and about 95% of the project.
That was very helpful of him...a more strict interpretation could have resulted in us covering $2000-$3000 more in expenses.
Here's the current state of the kitchen wall, showing the hole where the rotted flooring above the basement will be replaced. The leaking drain pipe is in the center of the photo, with the penny just out of the frame at the top:
The area is where the range was - so access was simple; just slide the range out of the way. It was damn nice not to have to tear out part of the counter and cabinets.
We had a tile backspash installed, and to get at the mold they had to remove it, so they cut along the grout lines and took it out as a unit. We have extra tile and grout to re-install it.
