P-47 crashes into the Hudson River killing the pilot. The plane appears to have survived.
Apparently the kids who work at MSN think jet and plane are synonyms.

Ignorance is everywhere. But for anyone born much after the 50's WWII is ancient history. The main reason a lot of us know much about it is that it was recent history when we grew up; there were lots of movies and TV shows about it, and even news reports.

Yes, and then we ourselves lived through the Cold War. Now there are people who view that as ancient history, if they even know what it was in the first place.
Comedians on TV have now found an endless way of providing humor by asking people on the street about history. In the latest example that was on a few days ago, a woman was asked who was in the Civil War. Her answer was "Japan."

I saw the story of the pilot crashing into the Hudson River on CNN. Unlike what I often see on TV (including on CNN,) I found their coverage sincere & nothing was sensationalized. The reporters seemed genuinely sad about it.

Very sad. The "Flying Milk Bottle" can sure take a beating, but it can't save you from drowning.

I teach an online graduate class in technology's impacts on society. Most students come into the class with the assumption that technology started some time in the early 1900's as electricity became widely available. People lose sight of earlier versions of technology (WWII aircraft are an example) very quickly. They overlook levers, aqueducts, the wheel, steam power, etc. Technology dates back as far as clothing, fire, and the concept of planting food to create a steady, predictable food supply...but it's overlooked.

Indeed. If we were able to time travel back 2000 years we would probably be amazed at the machines they made.
