Interesting Fender 5 string J-bass at a pawn shop
« on: December 10, 2011, 05:57:21 PM »
No pics, but today I saw an interesting 5 string Fender J-bass in translucent blue/green. Had a rosewood fretboard and was made in Coronado, CA (that right?). Had some wear and was $700. It also had tuners with keys similar to Thunderbirds rather than the big elephant ears. It was cool.

Which shop?  My kids have a show at Napper Tandy's tomorrow, so I may be able to go have a look at this bass...sounds interesting.

Sounds like it's an American Standard V. Current street price on those is $1350.

Ah, I did some looking, Dave, and it sure does look like a Fender V.

Dang, I neglected to mention it was in a pawnshop in Fayetteville. We were down there yesterday poking around and I hit up 4-5 pawnshops but didn't see much other than the Fender V, a batwing headstock Epi P-style bass and an Ernie Ball Music Man. The Fender was in Jim's Pawnshop, one a of the biggest down there.

Cool...yeah, Fayetteville's got some pawn shops. When we go riding down in Laurinburg, we try to stop at a few pawnies on the way back.
I'm still kicking myself for not getting a Yamaha Motion-B (32" scale) there a couple years back at Dixie Pawn. They were almost giving it away and I walked.  Oh well, there's always others.
