I would be interested for sure! How much is that in US $
Do you mind if I link this in an Australian bass players forum, Ozbass? There may be a few guys there that may be interested.
Also might be an idea to post in the Thunderbird Club on TB. There are guys there who may also be interested (some of which frequent here, but maybe not all).
Looks good BTW.
Oh yes, please do. Thank you.
I've already posted this over at Talkbass. But a post over there always sinks back a few pages within an hour or so.
I also have a website up, where I will be selling the book. At the moment, there is not much to look at. But I will fill the site when I have the books printed and well.
http://www.thegibsonbassbook.com (http://www.thegibsonbassbook.com)
I'm a good chance, certainly interested.
Welcome, mate!
I'm in for sure Rob, looks fantastic!
Can we get this posted in the Thunderbird thread on TB as well.
Not a single one, that guy from Germany is a fraud.
I already posted it in Basses over at TB. But within the hour it sunk back a few pages.
I don't think they'd appreciate cross posting? But if you direct folks to my post maybe it helps?

It seems to stay afloat now that Mark has mentioned it in the Thunderbird-corner!
Of course there's always some Fender fanboy that needs to make gratuitous comments. But that wasn't unexpected :-)
Yes, can I just say how much grace I believe you have displayed in your responses to some of the tools on TB. Well done.
Well, it did take quite an effort. Had to swallow my tongue a few times... Not entirely my style
;-)
Thanx for your support.
Autographed by the author sounds like a good idea........... 8)
aosehrels...
Well, the the topic over at Talkbass has been taken down because of "CUP Violation"
Apparently it is forbidden to ask if people would be interested in the book.
Oh well. I kind of expected it to happen. :-\
A Gibson book is probably considered a triggering event over there. TB is a safe space, after all.

It's just place to practice bitch slapping 7ender fanbois..............It needs to become a form of high art :-*
My impression is that there's just as much anti-Fender sentiment by guys who think their boutique basses are far superior due to the fancy tops. A thin layer of diseased buckeye burl sounds so much better, you know. OTOH I haven't really looked around there in years unless somebody here links to a specific thread, so maybe my impression is wrong.
Basseros remains at war.
The Fender lords maintain supremecy of the realm, but their forces are divided. The long standing enmity between the Fender lords and virtually everyone else, including closely related but lesser Houses- Music Man and G & L. Their forces were first reduced in numbers by significant defections of banner men to the modern Squier lords on the promise of equal quality at a lower price. Fierce battles were fought, some still rage as territory is hotlly contested. The Squier defectors now claim superior quality.
It has now become more complex and fragmented since the start of the Sire rebellion. Almost daily battles rage, as people scramble to find new superlatives.

Veneer is queer.
Me too! :-*
Gibson has offered to use their office on the 10th floor of the A'dam tower in Amsterdam, for the presentation of the book.
Awesome location.
I'm pretty excited.
We haven't set the exact date yet. But I'll keep you posted.

Thats great, really looking forward to seeing this!
Wow, this is so cool! Is it open to everyone? I'd love to be there...
I would buy a copy definitely if it were more easily accessible to a non-tech old guy in the states...
I tried to order this afternoon but the page stalled when I was ready to check out :(
Tried again and it thought that I was stacking multiple books.

I'll let you know. I hope to be able to ship them this week! Well in time before Xmas ;)
BTW - "No, I don't care for Gibson" is not a palatable option in the survey. I do care for Gibson, but I'm not motivated to buy a book as I don't track Gibson's history or models.
I'm order 246. Rob are you signing each copy? I wouldn't say no to the authors signature in my copy.
The first book that I sent weren't autographed. I simply didn't think about it.
I never let anything sign for me, so I didn't realise some of you really want someone to scribble into a brandnew book! 8)
But I guess you're never too old to learn. I will stain the books from now on, if you insist, haha.
@ Chris: Thank you! You've been a great help.
(@ Uwe: Thank you too. Without you I couldn't have made the book!)

If you have not shipped mine then I would be honored to have you sign mine.
I would love to have you scribble in my book.
Hey, danke schön!
Edith and I will actually be coming to AMS - what time is the event?
Hey, danke schön!
Edith and I will actually be coming to AMS - what time is the event? It's also a good chance to visit my son who studies there. And Edith wants to see AMS in Christmas time, she's a hopeless Christmas romantic. You guys have simply no idea how many times I have had - and will continue - to suffer through this:

Plus the look I get when I innocently ask: "Do we really have to watch this - again?"
Doors open at 20.00 hrs. Event starts at 20.30 hrs.
Hang in there guys. The books are on their way.
But I gotta say I'm disappointed to hear they haven't arrived yet. Dutch postal services promised delivery between 5 and 7 days...
My only disappointment is no autographed copy... ;)Well now that you mention it......
The books arrived today! They look remarkable! Finally a bass book that I can relate to!
Mine has arrived. So at least one delivered in Qz. I will be looking at it on Xmas Day!!!!!!!

still waiting in Cincinnati...
I have prepared a short speech on Ritchie Blackmore, WW II planes and the copious benefits of anal sex - topics that fit anytime, anywhere, anyplace.

Obviously discussing serious matters there

In the meanwhile I have found a few mistakes, that I just knew would pop up after the book had been printed. :-[
for example:
- sixties t-bird necks are not nine ply
- epi EB-3 is not short scale of course
60ies Rev Birds are generally nine-ply. Only the first ones made in 1963 aren't.
Only 60ies Non-Revs are all not nine-ply.
Rob has a brother who is neither a Thin Lizzy nor a Led Zep fan (that is why Rob never mentions him) - they're not all bad in that family then.
Of course. But he couldn't come, so I had to ask Rinus instead.
I found the proper battery..................

Do you think the book would sell more than 20 copies?
I would be suprised if there were only two!
I'm quite sure there's a whole lot more ;D
I'll let you off on the omission of Bill Wyman from the EB-3 pages
(http://images.equipboard.com/uploads/source/image/21009/big_134432975.jpg)
Bill didn't even cross my mind to be honest. I associate him more with Vox, Framus and Fender Mustang.
And of course the see through Ampeg
Neil Murray (ex-Whitesnake, -Gary Moore, -Colosseum II, -Brian May) bought my book. And he just left a review on the site. Ain't that cool? :thumbsup:8) Congrats!

Thank you Tom.
That would be awesome.
Would it be an idea if I sent you an extra book, so you can give them one just to see if it's any good for them?
That was great, Rob. You did just fine and you sounded at ease and in good humor.
You even managed to say "Fender" out loud without rolling your eyes.
Has any of you guys in the USA seen the latest edition of Bass Player magazine?I will look for one tomorrow.
I hear there is a little article about The Gibson Bass Book in there. But the bookshops in Velp don't have the magazine... :-\
I'm quite curious what they say 8)
Great interview Rob, I like the story of finding your first Les Paul in the music shop broom closet!
I miss a Dutch voice-over though. :)
Haha. Had a version with voice over. But decided against it. It was too cheesy.
Is there any chance of the VG doing a review of the Gibson Bass Book in their magazine??
Yes, the review is scheduled for the August edition of VG that mails the first week of June.
Nice break Rob! They've been around forever............
That sort of made me wonder what ever happened to JK Lutherie. John Kinnemeyer was always the best source of guitar related books. For many years he took out a full page add on the back page of the VG. Books & original guitar literature seemed to be his biggest passion. He also found me the telescoping end pin for my first EB-1, along with many other rare parts.
JK has a big eBay store. http://stores.ebay.com/JK-Lutherie He seems to be fresh out of telescoping end pins though. ;D
Thank you Bassilisk. The book is on its way to the USA now :toast:
Thank you Peter,
You book is already on it's way to Down Under. But it may take a while for it to arrive (per snail mail).
