Title: New Fenders coming. Tele Bass, Comp Mustang and
Post by: Chris P. on July 27, 2023, 02:28:56 AM
I can't share anything but some Fender news was leaked. This fall some nice new models will hit the market as the Vintera II series. Besides a '60s J and '50s and '60s P there will be:

- A Vintera II Bass VI in  Lake Placid Blue and Fiesta Red

- A Tele Bass with Wide Range Humbucker in Vintage White and Surf Green

- A Competition Mustang with lollipops in Competition Orange and Competition Burgundy (so yes, that's blue!)

All Vintera's come wioth a Gigbag. Prices around 11/1200 euros, which will be the dollar price too, I guess.

There will also be a new acoustic bass, and some P-style bass ukes (hollow)

I had to look up why competition burgundy is actually blue. Do you know if this new Fender will have the purple burst on the edges too?

No, i think it's just LPB with stripes.

Nope, the uke basses are totally new and so is the Mike Kerr Signaturen. But yes, the Vintera is a reissue series!

Yes, clearly burgundy.  :P
We really are living in 1984.
Winston what color is this bass?
Blue?
Wrong! Red! Now  time for the two minute hate against Gibson.

The burst on the competition burgundy looks nice although not particularly red. Slab rosewood fret boards are a nice feature. The Desert Sand color on the 50s Precision is a very fetching shade of beige.

On the Mustang they messed up the racing stripes and the tug bar angle. This is really annoying. How difficult was it replicate correctly? They also moved the bridge up and effectively changed the pickup location in relation to the string.

Burgundy has always been blue at Fender's!

I get my orange tomorrow and I'll check. First pics were mock-ups, they had lollipops - as was stated in the dealer e-mail - so I'm curious about the real deal.

The MIJ Mustangs from 20 years ago were correct. Just needed an antique pearl guard instead of the stock bright white pearl.

So all inaccuracies confirmed. How does it play and sound?

Compared to the JMJ and my CIJ Competition: The JMJ and MIM have 43.1mm nuts, the CIJ is 38mm. So modern P versus J. The CIJ and JMJ have round necks, this one is flatter. But comfortable. Not to flat. So this new one is as wide as the JMJ bit a bit flatter.

The contours are nice. The headstocks of the CIJ and MIM are thinner and a bit longer than the thick and shorter JMJ.
It feels good, sounds great, I'm a weekend away and monday she'll get's the Labella MUS I already have.

Output seems roughly similar to the JMJ.

I might just have a little GAS for a matching pair of competition burgundy Fender Vintera II Mustangs.

That Olympic white '60s P Bass is singing to me. I've built approximate '60s-looking P Basses so nice for Fender to finally make a MIM '60s P.

There’s a Vintera Bass VI too!

I'd rock any of those 'Stangs.  I've also been tracking prices on used Rascal basses, but they've been in a range from excessive to ludicrous.

The lipstick pickup Rascal?

The lipstick pickup Rascal?

Yep, the one that's kind of a green metallic.  I just think they look cool.

Yikes! I just looked at used Rascal prices. And to think, I sold mine 8 years ago for less than I paid.

Yup,  they cut the run and then everyone wanted one.

Isn't that how it usually works?  But those prices are silly.  Until recently, I hadn't seen one on Ebay for under $1000.

Those MIC Fender Coronado and Starcaster basses are starting to get silly on the used market as well.
