Gibson Basses / My Fenderbird...........
« on: August 04, 2008, 12:38:51 AM »

Well, here's my take on a Fenderbird, its a stock very metallic red Epi Thunderbird that I bought just for the body, everything else from it ended up not being used. The neck is an Eden lefty J, has some nice big chromey tuners and (god help me) a string tree! I made the truss rod cover using my Greco as a pattern, it was painted to match the body color. The pickups are Seymor Duncan Single coils potted into some new chromey covers. The Epi bridge and the post inserts were removed as they don't allow the bridge to sit low enogh on the posts due to their rims at the top. The bridge is an Allparts courtesy of Gary (gweimer) Yeah that's where yours went! and the inserts are Gibsons. Its wired VVTT with a 3 position microswitch.
I modified the neck heel and attached it to the body along with all the other parts, I needed help in actually setting it up and the wiring. Happily Mike Lull did this for me. It plays great and I love how it sounds, its a bit tighter than a Gibson but still kinda clanky... ;D
Here it is at a show we played this weekend, came along as my second. I played the Purple one - it's still WAY better!

Here we are playing "Rebel Yell" out in Pt. Angeles - Good song for our keyboard player and guitarist, its the last song of the night short of an encore, I'm bushed! We had a lot of fun with the crowd  :)

Gibson Basses / My Epi Thunderbird has arrived :)
« on: July 02, 2008, 01:44:20 PM »

It's really a beautiful shade of red, the photos don't the color justice. This one is Fenderbird fodder, its already had its neck, pick ups and bridge removed, and new parts are in the process of being added. It'll be a happy lobotomy  ;D

Gibson Basses / Lots of chrome in my life :)
« on: June 29, 2008, 11:36:07 PM »

So...... I got too lazy to dig up the chrome thread, but it was about time for a new family portrait. I don't always seem to get this done as much as I'd like, 9 1/2 months of the year its raining here. Anyway a few things have changed since I posted this shot back on the old dudepit.

The natural '76 is purple, the '02 natural finish and the Blackbird have given way for a nice black '77 and a Greco Thunderbird II, also a '77. And as a minor irritant to our Herr Moderator, I've replaced any black hardware with chrome, and found some nice new pieces for the 76's as well. Alot more chrome than your Volvo has..........or my Subaru for that matter!  ;)

« on: June 24, 2008, 09:15:27 AM »

Just an easy question for all of you that have sucessfully potted pickups into chrome covers :
What did you use to hold them in place?
If there are differing opinions out there I'd love to hear them.

Thanks,

Fraulein Rommel

The Outpost Cafe / Footage of a recent live performance
« on: June 01, 2008, 12:48:25 AM »
This is from 5/16/2008 in Pt Angeles, Wa. The audio is only from the cameras so it's not good....will be when we add our own separately recorded tracks to this. Sanctuary by The Cult is probably my favorite rock song ever - not for the bass playing, but the song as a whole, I LOVE being a bass player and playing this song, only a Thunderbird will do for me!  ;D

The Outpost Cafe / What I did with my weekend.....
« on: May 19, 2008, 08:56:31 AM »

Well more like Thursday, Friday and Saturday....Worked hard, played 3 one hour sets each night in our favorite place, Pt Angeles, Wa. Thursday at The Castaways, kinda redneck place with a lousy club PA and difficult to eq space.

Friday was at The Lyre's Club, we were the first band to play here, as it was newly renovated including the stage. A very intimate place to play, the stage is 6" tall so you're right there with the crowd, for me this is what playing in a rock band is all about.......a sweaty bar full of people on a Friday night.

It wasn't all work, we have lots of friends out in P.A. I'm with Ginger, our keyboard player.

Saturday found us at Steele's, a sports bar.....not really my kinda place but there were well over 300 people there to see us! A crazy night!

There is about 6 hours of video in production and 9 hours of music, I'm beat this Monday a.m., time to rest up by going back to work......

As always I'll have two 'Birds with me the black and purple '77's Here's our show flyer, Ginger our keyboard player put it together......Naw we don't like WWII. See you guys!

Gibson Basses / Which EB for me?
« on: April 22, 2008, 04:23:28 PM »

All right,

A little help here for a potential short scale newbie.......I can't help but LOVE Andy Fraser's tone on that Free clip in our Video thread. I'd like to know what model he's playing........Any possible modern day substitutes? Epi, Tokai, Greco that would do? It's not like I'd ever play it out with my band, just for around the house I think, Thanks Guys   ;D

Gibson Basses / Allparts bridge for an Epi
« on: April 12, 2008, 12:18:37 AM »

Anybody replace the stock black (Eewww) Epiphone 3 point bridge with an Allparts chromey one? I'm mostly concerned the threading of the posts........ I'm told the Allparts posts won't thread into Gibsons.
